Chestnut Hill, MA (Sports Network) - Chris Crane ran for two touchdowns and
passed for a third as he led the Boston College Eagles to a commanding 34-7
win over the UCF Knights in non-conference action at Alumni Stadium.
Crane, who was benched in favor of Dominique Davis in the first quarter,
finished the day with 31 yards on the ground for the Eagles (2-1) and also hit
16-of-34 passing for 207 yards, but was picked off three times. Davis stepped
in to convert 4-of-7 for 30 yards and a TD in the victory, while Montel Harris
ran for a game-high 112 yards on 13 attempts.
The Knights (1-2) were paced by Michael Greco who gained 54 yards and scored
the only touchdown of the game for the team on one of his six rushing
attempts. Unfortunately, as a passer Greco didn't perform all that well as he
made good on just 12-of-24 for 92 yards and was intercepted three times.
Adding to the team's troubles was backup Rob Calabrese who also threw an
interception on one of his eight passing chances.
Following a scoreless first quarter, BC kicker Steve Aponavicius knocked
through a 22-yard field goal at the 1:12 mark of the second frame.
On the ensuing possession the Knights and Greco made their way into the end
zone on a one-yard run as time expired, giving the visitors a 7-3 edge at the
In the third quarter Crane bounced back with rushing TDs of one and two yards
to put the Eagles back ahead to stay at 17-7.
Crane's 48-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Robinson early in the fourth quarter
was followed by a 25-yard field goal by Aponavicius, with a three-yard TD pass
from Davis to Lars Anderson to close out the contest and provide the Eagles
with the convincing 27-point triumph. Robinson finished the game with seven
catches for 109 yards.
UCF, which controlled the ball for less than 25 minutes on the day, converted
only 5-of-17 on third down.
