NCAA Game Summary - S-M-U at Navy

(Saturday, October 25th)

Final Score: Navy 34, SMU 7

Annapolis, MD (Sports Network) - Third-string quarterback Ricky Dobbs ran for 224 yards and four touchdowns, as the Navy Midshipmen cruised past the SMU Mustangs, 34-7, in a non-league matchup at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

Starting quarterback Jarod Bryant left the game with a shoulder injury in the first quarter, which opened the door for Dobbs' big day. With their ground game so dominant (404 yards on 77 attempts), the Midshipmen (5-3) didn't attempt a single pass. The last team to play a game without attempting a pass was Ohio University in 1997.

In contrast, SMU (1-8) had 11 rushing attempts for minus-13 yards as a team. Bo Levi Mitchell completed 16-of-28 passes for 157 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

The Mustangs began the game with a three-and-out, and a 14-yard punt set Navy up with first down on the SMU 27. Three plays later, Shun White scored on a 23-yard run to give Navy a 7-0 lead.

Dobbs scored the first of his touchdowns on a two-yard run at the 5:31 mark of the opening quarter, capping a 10-play, 60-yard drive.

Three minutes later, Dobbs scored on a five-yard run to give Navy a 20-0 first-quarter cushion.

He scored on a one-yard plunge with 9:49 remaining in the second quarter, which punctuated a nine-play, 79-yard drive.

SMU didn't get on the scoreboard until the five-minute mark of the third quarter, when Mitchell connected with Aldrick Robinson for a four-yard touchdown pass.

Dobbs added a seven-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Mitchell threw his nation-leading 19th interception in the second quarter.
