Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Kevin Smith carried 33 times for a career-high 223 yards and three touchdowns to lead the UCF Knights to a 37-19 victory over the UL-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns at Bright House Networks Stadium.

Smith, who is second in the nation with 178 rushing yards per game, now has 10 touchdowns on the season for UCF (3-1). Kyle Israel completed 11-of-20 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown.

For UL-Lafayette (0-5), Michael Desormeaux threw for 154 yards and a touchdown, and ran for another 92 yards in a losing effort.

Robert Batista connected on a 41-yard field goal for UCF on the game's opening drive.

Midway through the opening quarter, Smith broke loose for a 56-yard touchdown run to give the Knights a 10-0 lead.

The Ragin' Cajuns made it a one-score game on a 26-yard field goal by Drew Edmiston with 1:09 remaining in the first quarter.

Smith scored again on a one-yard plunge in the opening minute of the second quarter, capping off an eight-play, 68-yard drive for UCF.

The Ragin' Cajuns responded with an eight-play drive of their own, but could muster only three points on a 22-yard Edmiston field goal.

With 1:20 to play in the half, Smith scored on another one-yard run.

The Knights expanded their lead to 30-6 on a 19-yard blocked punt return by Augustus Ashley just before the half.

UL-Lafayette's Derrick Smith returned the second-half kickoff 86 yards to the UCF three-yard line, setting up a touchdown run by Marlin Miller on the first play from scrimmage of the second half.

But the Knights added another touchdown on a one-yard pass from Israel to Cory Rabazinski.

The Ragin' Cajuns scored their final touchdown on a 28-yard pass from Desormeaux to Smith in the fourth quarter.

Smith left the game in the fourth quarter with a right shoulder injury. With his three touchdowns, he passes former Knights quarterback Daunte Culpepper for third place in career rushing touchdowns (26) at UCF.
