El Paso, TX (Sports Network) - Terrell Jackson scampered 36 yards to paydirt
early in the fourth quarter to lead the Texas-El Paso Miners to a 10-6 victory
over the New Mexico Lobos in the season opener for both programs.
Trevor Vittatoe completed just 6-of-21 passes for 59 yards in his first
collegiate start for Texas-El Paso (1-0).
Donovan Porterie threw for 190 yards and Rodney Ferguson ran for 128 yards in
the loss for New Mexico (0-1).
The only points of the first quarter came on a 51-yard field goal by Jose
Martinez of UTEP.
The game was tied at 3-3 at intermission, as the Lobos managed a 21-yard field
goal by John Sullivan in the second quarter.
After a scoreless third quarter, New Mexico claimed a 6-3 lead early in the
fourth on a 40-yard field goal by Sullivan.
Less than two minutes later, however, UTEP scored the game-winning touchdown on
a 36-yard run by Jackson.
