Hattiesburg, MS (Sports Network) - Kyle Israel completed 12-of-16 passes for
162 yards and a pair of scores, as UCF cruised past Southern Miss, 34-17.
Kevin Smith rushed for 175 yards on 43 carries for UCF (5-3, 4-1), which won
its second straight. Kamar Aiken caught three balls for 55 yards and a score.
Tory Harrison rushed for 30 yards on six carries and scored twice for Southern
Miss (4-4, 3-2), which had a two-game winning streak snapped. Damion Fletcher
had 134 rushing yards on 19 carries, and Stephen Reaves completed 20-of-29
passes for 144 yards but threw three interceptions. Torris Magee added 40
receiving yards on six catches.
Harrison's two-yard touchdown run with 9:51 remaining in the first staked
Southern Miss to an early lead, but Smith's one-yard touchdown scamper tied
the score six minutes later.
A 32-yard Justin Estes field goal sparked the second-quarter scoring for
Southern Miss about three minutes into the stanza, but Smith scored again,
this time to give UCF the lead, on a five-yard touchdown run with 7:21 to go.
UCF next went to the air, on an eight-yard touchdown pass from Israel to Brian
Watters for a 21-10 lead at halftime.
Michael Torres' 41-yarder about four minutes into the third preceded a four-
yard touchdown run by Harrison, who brought Southern Miss within reach,
24-17, at the ten-minute mark.
But, Israel's eight-yard touchdown pass to Aiken with 1:03 left gave UCF a
31-17 lead heading into the fourth, in which Torres' 31-yard field goal with
9:18 remaining sealed the win.
