NCAA Game Summary - U-A-B at East Carolina|
(Saturday, October 27th)
Final Score: East Carolina 41, UAB 6
Greenville, NC (Sports Network) - Patrick Pinkney threw two third quarter
touchdowns as the East Carolina Pirates won impressively, 41-6, over the UAB
Blazers in Conference USA action at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
Pinkney alternated with starting quarterback Rob Kass and finished the day
with 159 yards on 6-of-7 passing. The ECU' (5-4, 4-1 Conference USA) running
attack grinded out 216 yards on 6.2 yards per carry and added three
touchdowns. Chris Johnson took the bulk of the load with 15 carries for a
game-high 79 yards and a touchdown. Jamar Bryant caught six balls for 114
yards and a score in the winning effort.
The UAB Blazers (2-6, 1-3) managed their 12th straight road loss thanks to
inefficient quarterback play. Sam Hunt was just 14-of-31 for 112 yards and two
interceptions. The running game, though, was effective as it ran for 168
yards, led by Brandon Thornton's 67 yards.
John Williams began the scoring on ECU's first possession by taking a handoff
35 yards to pay dirt.
Swayze Waters put the Blazers on the board by hitting a 42-yard field goal
midway though the first quarter, and ECU's Ben Hartman responded by connecting
on a 36 yarder of his own late in the frame.
Dominique Lindsay made it a two touchdown game in favor of the Pirates after
taking one in from the three-yard line.
Waters and Hartman again exchanged field goals to end the half. Waters was
good from 44 yards and Hartman from 27, as ECU took a 20-6 lead at the break.
To start the third quarter, Johnson took the ball 20 yards into the end zone
five minutes into the half and the Pirates led 27-6.
Bryant and Steven Rogers brought in two Pinkney' passes from 52 and seven
yards, respectively, to put the final score at 41-6, as neither offense would
be heard from in the final quarter.
Pinkney provided the spark the Pirates needed in the second half, and the
defense did the rest by tightening up and not allowing the Blazers past the
ECU 25-yard line.
