(Thursday, September 27th)

Final Score: Boise State 38, Southern Mississippi 16

Boise, ID (Sports Network) - Ian Johnson amassed 111 yards on the ground and found the end zone three times, as Boise State dropped Southern Mississippi, 38-16.

Taylor Tharp threw for 307 yards and two scores for the Broncos (3-1), who beat Wyoming 24-14 their last time out.

Johnson added three receptions for 80 yards, highlighted by a 54-yard catch- and-run.

Jeremy Young went 13-of-23 for 190 yards with a TD toss for the Golden Eagles (2-2), who were coming off a win over East Carolina.

A pair of Tharp touchdown passes -- one to Jeremy Childs and the other to Richie Brockel -- gave Boise St. a 14-0 first-quarter lead. Johnson's two TD rushes in the second frame helped the Broncos establish a 28-10 advantage at the break, and Southern Mississippi never threatened from there.

This was the first-ever meeting between these two clubs.
