Boise, ID (Sports Network) - Taylor Tharp threw for a pair of touchdowns as
the Boise State Broncos made their way back into the win column with a 24-14
triumph against the Wyoming Cowboys in non-conference action from Bronco
Boise State (2-1), which had the nation's longest win streak snapped at 14
games last week, fell out of the national rankings as a result. Tharp finished
the night 15-of-30 for 182 yards and survived three sacks in picking up the
"Wyoming is tough first and foremost, credit goes to their defense, their
team," noted Tharp following the contest. "I've got respect for their coaches
and players. We knew that those guys were going to come out and play us hard
because its one of their best starts in the last four or five years under
Coach Glenn and they came out hard."
The Cowboys (2-1), one of the toughest defenses in the country, were paced by
Karsten Sween who converted 26-of-48 for 227 yards and a touchdown, but he too
was sacked three times and was intercepted once.
Following a scoreless first quarter BSU scored the only points of the half
when D.J. Harper made it into the end zone on an eight-yard run, giving the
home team a 7-0 edge at the break.
The third period saw the Broncos get two passing scores from Tharp, the first
a 52-yard effort to Jeremy Childs and the second a nine-yard connection with
At the 9:18 mark of the fourth the Cowboys finally got on the scoreboard with
a 21-yard TD strike from Sween to Devin Moore. Wynel Seldon, who finished with
just 19 rushing yards on eight attempts, added a two-yard TD run with less
than a minute to play.
Between the two Wyoming scores the Broncos padded their advantage with a 27-
yard field goal by Kyle Brotzman to leave Boise with the 10-point home win.
The Pokes, who controlled the ball for less than 26 minutes, generated only 24
yards on the ground and 262 yards of offense overall.
