NCAA Game Summary - Louisville at Kansas State

(Saturday, September 23rd)

Final Score: (8) Louisville 24, Kansas State 6

Manhattan, KS (Sports Network) - Harry Douglas caught six passes for 81 yards and a touchdown to lead the eighth-ranked Louisville Cardinals past the Kansas State Wildcats, 24-6, in non-conference action.

Hunter Cantwell completed 18-of-26 passes for 173 yards with a touchdown and interception for Louisville (4-0), which remains undefeated on the season.

The Cardinals came into the game with momentum after upending then nationally- ranked Miami-Florida 31-7 last weekend and avoided a letdown.

"I just have great confidence in my team," Louisville linebacker Nate Harris said. "We have great confidence in each other, we knew how much hard work we put in to prepare for this whole game and this whole season. We didn't want to come out here and let down ourselves, our fans and our school."

Kolby Smith ran for 63 yards while George Stripling also ran for 63 yards with a touchdown in the victory. Smith also caught four passes for 33 yards.

Thomas Clayton rushed for 119 yards to lead Kansas State (3-1), which suffered its first loss of the season. Clayton also hauled in five passes for 34 yards while Dylan Meier went 14-of-33 for 121 yards with an interception.

"They had a pretty good pass rush, their blitzing scheme really affected us," Meier said. "It was tough. They're awful good though. They held Miami to seven for a reason."

Louisville jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, scoring on the first offensive possession of the game. Douglas hauled in a 19-yard TD pass from Cantwell to cap a 12-play, 97-yard drive.

After Jon Russell's interception return of 53 yards to the Kansas State 15- yard line, Louisville made the Wildcats pay as Arthur Carmody's 26-yard field goal made it 10-0 with 4:17 remaining in the first half.

Almost five minutes into the third quarter, the Cardinals extended their lead to 17-0 after Stripling rushed into the end zone from two yards out. The key play on the scoring drive was a Brock Bolen run for 26 yards into Kansas State territory.

Louisville's lead grew to 24-0 after Bolen ran up the left sideline and into the end zone from 17 yards out.

Kansas State finally got on the board in the fourth quarter after Clayton ripped off a 69-yard TD run to make it 24-6. The Wildcats went for a two-point conversion after the score and failed.

Game Notes

This was the first-ever meeting on the gridiron between the schools...Bolen finished with 53 yards on five carries...Jordy Nelson hauled in four passes for 39 yards in the loss for the Wildcats.
