Report: Steve Sarkisian to become USC's next coach

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - USC has reportedly hired Steve Sarkisian as its new head football coach.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Sarkisian and Southern California athletic director Pat Haden spoke about the position on Sunday.

Sarkisian, a former USC assistant, took the head coaching job at Washington following the 2008 season. He led the Huskies to a 34-29 record and 24-21 mark in the Pac-12 over five seasons. The Huskies went 8-4 in 2013, their best record in Sarkisian's tenure.

Haden fired Lane Kiffin in late September after a 3-2 start. The Trojans went 6-2 under interim head coach Ed Orgeron.

Sarkisian was an assistant on Pete Carroll's USC staff from 2001 to 2003 and 2005 to 2008. At USC, Sarkisian worked with two Heisman Trophy winners -- quarterbacks Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart.

In 2004, Sarkisian was the quarterbacks coach for the Oakland Raiders in the NFL.
