Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Fresh off winning the program's first-ever MAC Championship, the University of Buffalo accepted to play in the International Bowl, the first ever bowl appearance for the Bulls.
Buffalo, the leaders of the West Division, upset previously unbeaten and 12th- ranked Ball State 42-24 in the MAC Championship on Friday and will now seek even more success when the school takes on an unknown school from the Big East in Toronto on January 3.
"It is with great pride, and anticipation, that we accept an invitation to play in the International Bowl on behalf of our administration," Buffalo head coach Turner Gill said. "Our football program is extremely excited to come to the great city of Toronto, where we know we will be well-represented not only by UB students, alumni and Western New York, but also Southern Ontario."
The Bulls had been invited to the 1958 Tangerine Bowl, but declined the bid due to the stipulation that two of their African-American players could not play against white players at the game site.
