Twelve Lions selected to CFL All-Star team
Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - The B.C. Lions had a CFL-best 12 players listed on the league's All-Star team, which was disclosed Thursday.
Quarterback Travis Lulay, receiver Geroy Simon, tackles Ben Archibald and Jovan Olafioye and center Angus Reid were named to the offensive roster. Defensive tackles Aaron Hunt and Khalif Mitchell, defensive end Keron Williams, linebacker Solomon Elimimian, cornerback Dante Marsh and defensive back Korey Banks made the defensive squad, while kicker Paul McCallum was named a special teams All-Star.
The Calgary Stampeders had six selections, including running back Jon Cornish, the Edmonton Eskimos registered six players, including tailback Jerome Messam. Rounding out the Western selections are the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who were led by linebacker Jerrell Freeman.
Out East, quarterback Anthony Calvillo leads seven Montreal Alouettes to be selected. The Toronto Argonauts also had seven selections, while the Winnipeg Blue Bombers had eight selections. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats finish up the East with five selections.
The Lions finished with a league best 11-7 record to capture the West Division, while Winnipeg went 10-8 to win the East.
Hamilton (8-10) travels to Montreal (10-8) on Sunday in the East semifinals, while Calgary (11-7) heads to Edmonton (11-7) in the West semis.
The All-Stars were selected by 70 voting members, including the eight CFL head coaches, Football Reporters of Canada and fans from across the country.
