Cedar Falls, IA (Sports Network) - Anthony James scored a game-high 17 points as the Northern Iowa Panthers posted a 63-51 win over the Illinois-Chicago Flames in the second round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament at the McLeod Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Panthers (20-14), as they extended their run of 20-win campaigns to five straight, were Seth Tuttle and Jake Koch with 15 and 11 points, respectively, the latter adding eight rebounds and six assists as well.
The Flames (18-16) were paced by Josh Crittle who came up a rebound shy of a double-double as he tallied 12 points, while Daniel Barnes tacked on 10 points in the losing cause.
UNI shot a dismal 33.3 percent from the floor in the first half, yet the squad was still able to establish a 25-24 edge at the break as the Panthers outscored the visitors 4-0 at the free-throw line.
After converting only 1-of-4 beyond the arc through the first 20 minutes of action, Northern Iowa hit on 6-of-10 in the second half as it cruised to the double-digit win.
In a game that featured eight ties and nine lead changes, UIC hurt itself with 21 turnovers, which the Panthers traded in for 22 points.
UNI now heads to the quarterfinals of this tournament with an opponent and date to be determined.
