NCAA Game Summary - UMKC vs. Norfolk State

Uncasville, CT (Sports Network) - Estan Tyler scored 15 points, leading four players in double figures, as the UMKC Kangaroos delivered a 63-57 win over the Norfolk State Spartans in a consolation game of the 2012 Hall of Fame Tip- Off Classic at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Thomas Staton added 14 points off the bench for the Kangaroos (2-2), followed by Trinity Hall and Kirk Korver with 11 and 10 points, respectively, in the win.
The Spartans (2-3) were paced by Brandon Goode who tallied 12 points, while Rob Johnson contributed 11 points as he shot just 4-of-14 from the floor. Rashid Gaston came close to posting a double-double as he accounted for nine points and just as many rebounds in the losing cause.
UMKC opened the meeting on a 7-0 run and led by as many as nine in the first half, but the team saw a 13-point swing in the period before heading into the break with a 26-25 advantage.
In the second half the Kangaroos pushed their lead to double digits at one point, but down the stretch they needed solid free-throw shooting in order to secure the six-point win.
In addition to holding the Spartans to just 4-of-18 shooting behind the three- point line on the day, UMKC also outscored the squad by a 21-7 margin at the free-throw line as well.
