San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - Cole Dickerson led the way with 18 points as the San Francisco Dons dropped the Loyola Marymount Lions, 62-53, in a West Coast Conference bout at War Memorial Gym.
Avry Holmes added 11 points for the Dons (8-11, 1-5 WCC), who snapped a five- game losing streak.
For the Lions (8-11, 1-5), Anthony Ireland paced the squad with 13 points, Bruce English finished with 12 points, and Ayodeji Egbeyemi chipped in with 10 points.
Both teams had trouble making baskets to start the contest. San Francisco was the better of the two in the first half, but it still made only 28.6 percent of its field goal attempts. The Dons drained 5-of-15 from beyond the 3-point arc and took a 25-22 lead at the break. Loyola hit on just 22.7 percent of its field goal attempts opening 20 minutes.
After trailing for the entire second half, Loyola was able to get its deficit to one possession, as it trailed by three with just under two minutes to play, but the Dons were able to hold on for their first conference win of the season.
The Dons dominated in the paint, outscoring the Lions 22-4. They also scored 22 points off of 14 Loyola turnovers.
