San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - James Kinney scored 22 points and handed out seven assists as the San Jose State Spartans defeated the Roadrunners of Texas-San Antonio, 80-67, in a Western Athletic Conference bout at the Convocation Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Spartans (7-5, 2-0 WAC) were Chris Cunningham and LaVanne Pennington who tallied 19 and 16 points, respectively, the former adding eight boards and three assists as he shot a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor for an SJSU squad that has now won two in a row to close out the 2012 calendar year.
The Roadrunners (4-8, 0-2), losers of two straight and seven of the last eight, were led by Jeromie Hill with 22 points, Jordan Sims added 12 and Michael Hale II and Kannon Burrage 11 points apiece in the setback.
San Jose State opened the contest on an 8-3 run and led by six at the break, 36-30, after limiting the hosts to just 34.5 percent shooting from the floor through the first 20 minutes of action.
In the second half the Spartans shot a sizzling 66.7 percent from the field, including 5-of-8 beyond the arc, in order to capture the 13-point win.
SJSU finished the day knocking down 9-of-18 on the perimeter and held the Roadrunners to only 39.3 percent accuracy from the field overall.
