Hot Springs, AR (Sports Network) - Dominique Johnson and George Odufuwa combined for 35 points to lead the North Texas Mean Green to an 83-69 win over the Troy Trojans in a Sun Belt Conference first-round game at Summit Arena.
Johnson scored 18 points for the Mean Green (20-10) who came into the tournament as the fourth seed in the West Division and will face Florida Atlantic, the top seed from the East, in Sunday's quarterfinal. Odufuwa provided 17 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists. Tristan Thompson scored 16 points, Shannon Shorter 14, and Josh White 12.
Vernon Taylor scored 17 points for the Trojans (8-21), the fifth seed out of the East. Travis Lee wound up with 13 points, while Bernard Toombs contributed 12 points and 12 rebounds. Levan Patsatsia added 11 points.
Troy led by nine with 12:09 left in the first half before North Texas took a 43-38 halftime advantage after shooting 16-of-29 from the floor in the first half, including 5-of-10 from long range.
The Mean Green led by as many as 16 points in the second half,
The Trojans were just 4-of-25 from three-point range.
