NCAA Game Summary - Wofford at Virginia Commonwealth
(Tuesday, December 17)
Final Score: Virginia Commonwealth 72, Wofford 57
Richmond, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Treveon Graham scored a game-high 18 points as the Rams of Virginia Commonwealth dismissed the Wofford Terriers, 72-57, in non-conference play at the Siegel Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Rams (9-3) was JeQuan Lewis who tallied 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor for a team that has won five of the last six outings.
The Terriers (3-7) were paced by Karl Cochran who dropped in 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds, but he was also guilty of six of the unit's 20 turnovers on the night as Wofford bowed for the third time in as many games.
VCU converted just 3-of-9 shots behind the 3-point line in the first half and was 42.9 percent accurate from the floor over the first 20 minutes, but the team thrived at the free-throw line, outscoring the visitors 11-3 in order to take a 38-28 advantage into the break.
In the second half both teams made a total of just nine field goals and the Rams dropped to 2-of-11 out on the perimeter. Again the charity stripe was very accommodating, as the hosts connected on 14-of-19 opportunities, en route to the 15-point win.
VCU captured the victory despite knocking down only 37.5 percent from the field and 5-of-20 beyond the arc. It certainly helped that the Rams forced 20 turnovers, leading to 18 points.
