Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Mike Caffey scored 15 points and handed out five assists to guide the Long Beach State 49ers to a 73-70 decision over the Loyola Marymount Lions in a non-conference tilt at Gersten Pavilion.

James Ennis and Deng Deng contributed 14 points each for Long Beach State (3-3), while Kris Gulley registered a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Ashley Hamilton netted a game-high 17 points to go along with nine rebounds for LMU (3-4). Ayodeji Egbeyemi notched a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. C.J. Blackwell came off the bench to pour in 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc while Anthony Ireland went 4-of-14 from the field for nine points. Ireland also dished out eight assists for the Lions, who lost their second in a row.

The 49ers struggled in the early stages of the bout as they managed to make only 37.5 percent of their field goal attempts in the opening 20 minutes. LMU connected on 7-of-14 attempts from three-point range in the first half. The hosts led by as many as 11 before taking a 38-32 lead into the intermission.

Long Beach State fought back after the break and took its first lead at the 14:18 mark thanks to a pair of makes by Ennis at the charity stripe. The game went back-and-forth until Dan Jennings finished a layup with just under four minutes remaining to put the 49ers in front for good. The Lions surrendered their lead in the second half despite connecting on 6-of-11 attempts from distance.

Long Beach State outscored LMU, 16-5, at the free throw line to pull off the road victory.
