Louisville tops final coaches' poll

McLean, VA (Sports Network) - Louisville, after winning the national championship on Monday, was an expected unanimous top choice in the final USA Today coaches' poll.

The Cardinals beat Michigan, 82-76, in Atlanta for their third national title and first since 1986. They received all 31 first-place votes and a total of 775 points from a nationwide panel of head coaches.

Michigan finished second, followed by Final Four participants Syracuse and Wichita State. The Shockers were not ranked in the final poll before the NCAA Tournament.

Duke, Ohio State, Indiana, Kansas, Florida and Miami-Florida completed the top 10.

The second 10 consisted of Marquette, Gonzaga, Michigan State, Arizona, Oregon, Saint Louis, Georgetown, Memphis, New Mexico and Kansas State. Gonzaga was the top team in the poll entering the NCAA Tournament, but the Bulldogs were eliminated by Wichita State in the round of 32.

Creighton, Wisconsin, VCU, La Salle and Florida Gulf Coast were the last five teams ranked. La Salle, as a No. 13 seed, and Florida Gulf Coast, as a 15th seed, both made surprising runs through the tournament, each reaching the Sweet 16.

Oklahoma State, Pittsburgh and Saint Mary's all finished out of the final poll.
