Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Orlando Woolridge, a former NBA and Notre Dame standout, died late Thursday night. He was 52 years old.

Woolridge, according to Notre Dame, died at his parents' home in Louisiana, where he had been under hospice care due to a chronic heart condition.

After a solid career at Notre Dame, which included a four-year record of 92-26 with a trip to the Final Four as a freshman in 1978, Woolridge was selected by the Chicago Bulls with the sixth overall pick of the 1981 draft.

In a 13-year NBA career, Woolridge averaged 16.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 851 games with the Bulls (1981-86), New Jersey (1986-88), Los Angeles Lakers (1988-90), Denver (1990-91), Detroit (1991-93), Milwaukee (1993) and Philadelphia (1993-94).

Woolridge also played two years in Italy and served as head coach of the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks in 1998 and '99.
