NCAA Game Summary - Fairfield at Marist
(Monday, February 20th)
Final Score: Fairfield 60, Marist 49
Poughkeepsie, NY (Sports Network) - Derek Needham scored 16 points and Fairfield defeated Marist, 60-49, at McCann Arena on Monday.
Ryan Olander netted 13 points and Rakim Sanders added 12 points and nine rebounds for Fairfield (17-11, 12-4 MAAC), which won for the seventh time in eight games.
Chavaughn Lewis scored a game-high 19 points to go with six rebounds for Marist (11-17, 5-11). Jay Bowie added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Red Foxes, who had won two straight coming into the game.
The Stags used a stifling defensive effort to hold Marist without a bucket for over ten minutes as they scored 13 straight points in the first half en route to a 28-12 advantage at the break.
A Devin Price three-pointer just 3:42 into the second half gave the Red Foxes their 13th point of the half, one more than they had the entire first half, to make it a ten-point difference, 35-25.
Marist trailed by as many as 20 after a Colin Nickerson three made it 56-36, but Lewis' three-pointer and subsequent dunk made it a 58-49 game with just under two minutes remaining.
However, the Red Foxes were unable to capitalize as they came up empty on the offensive end and two Needham free throws sealed the double-digit victory for the Stags.
