Lafayette, LA (Sports Network) - Bryant Mbamalu scored 16 points to help the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns outlast the Arkansas State Red Wolves to pick up a 68-65 overtime victory in a Sun Belt Conference thriller at the Cajun Dome.
Raymone Andrews finished with 14 points for the Ragin' Cajuns (15-12, 9-4 Sun Belt) as they won for the fifth time in six games. Darshawn McClellan added 12 points off the bench while Kadeem Coleby grabbed eight rebounds.
Malcoln Kirkland paced the Red Wolves (10-17, 4-8) with 16 points. Marcus Hooten scored 14 points, which included the game-tying three-point basket to force overtime and Trey Finn netted 13 points. Brandon Peterson led Arkansas State with seven rebounds.
The Red Wolves took a 34-29 lead into the intermission after they shot 42.4 percent from the floor in the opening period.
Louisiana rallied back after the break by hitting 42.3 percent of its field goals in the final 20 minutes. The Ragin' Cajuns led 58-55 before Hooten tied it up with a three-ball with seven seconds left in regulation. Elfrid Payton missed a go-ahead try at the buzzer which forced an extra period.
Payton's three-point play in overtime gave Louisiana the lead with 2:20 left in overtime and the Ragin' Cajuns made their next four free throws to hang on for the victory
