Cedar Falls, IA (Sports Network) - Seth Tuttle recorded a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Northern Iowa Panthers to a 78-63 decision over the Illinois State Redbirds in Missouri Valley Conference action at the McLeod Center.
Johnny Moran added 16 points for UNI (17-10, 7-8 MVC), while Marc Sonnen scored 12 points and handed out six assists. Chip Rank was a spark off the bench with 10 points for the Panthers.
Bryant Allen paced Illinois State (16-10, 8-7) with 17 points. Jackie Carmichael added a double-double of 14 points and 13 boards as the Redbirds two-game winning streak came to an end.
UNI led 40-34 at the intermission after it shot 53.6 percent from the field and connected on 8-of-11 from beyond the arc in the opening period. The Redbirds hung around by making 50 percent of their field goals in the first half.
The Panthers extended their lead after the break by shooting 45.5 percent and making 4-of-10 from three-point range in the final 20 minutes.
UNI made 16-of-21 from the charity stripe in the contest, while Illinois State converted 4-of-8 from the free throw line.
