Holy Cross fires Kearney after one season
Worcester, MA (Sports Network) - Holy Cross has fired head men's basketball coach Sean Kearney on Tuesday after just one season at the helm.
Kearney became the 15th head coach in the history of the program on July 2, 2009 after Ralph Willard resigned. The Crusaders finished 9-22 during 2009-10, including a 5-9 mark in Patriot League games. The loss total was the highest in the program's history.
"This was a very difficult decision," said athletic director Richard M. Regan Jr. "This is also an affirmation of how important basketball is at Holy Cross. At the end of the day, after assessing the results and evaluating what our prospects were for the future, we felt this was a move we had to make."
Kearney joined Holy Cross after serving as an associate head coach at Notre Dame for the previous nine seasons. The school said a search for a new coach will begin immediately.
