Hot Springs, AR (Sports Network) - Steffphon Pettigrew tallied 18 points and seven rebounds, as the fourth-seeded Western Kentucky Hilltoppers breezed past the 13th-seeded New Orleans Privateers, 83-58, in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at Convention Center Court.
Pettigrew dropped in 7-of-13 shots from the field for WKU (20-12), which moves on to play fifth-seeded Arkansas State in the quarterfinals on Sunday. Sergio Kerusch added 16 points and five rebounds, while A.J. Slaughter chipped in with 13 points. WKU, the two time defending champions of this event, has now won its last eight conference games.
Charles Carmouche turned in 21 points and six boards for the Privateers (8-22), while Carl Blair posted 16 points and eight assists. This was the last SBC Tournament for UNO, as the program will be moving to the Division III level.
WKU knocked down 44.4 percent of its attempts from the floor in the opening half and took a 31-25 lead to the locker room.
The Toppers shot a blistering 67.9 percent from the floor in the second stanza, as they cruised to the 25-point win.
WKU went 9-of-22 from long range in the game, while also scoring 35 points off 25 UNO giveaways.
