Tyus leads Gators past UMKC
Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Alex Tyus scored a game-high 25 points and had eight rebounds as 17th-ranked Florida cruised past UMKC, 86-65, at Amway Arena.
Tyus made 10-of-13 shots from the field, while Chandler Parsons chipped in with 17 points and Erving Walker had 13 points off the bench for the Gators (5-1), who have won two straight since losing to Syracuse in the CBE Classic.
Florida improved to 55-7 in the month of November under head coach Billy Donovan. Nick Calathes scored nine points and dished out six assists in the win.
Dane Brumagin scored a team-high 16 points for UMKC (3-5), which was coming off a 73-69 win over Florida Gulf Coast in the CBE Classic. Latreze Mushatt contributed 12 points and eight boards, while Reggie Hamilton had 10 points in defeat.
With the Gators holding a 40-32 lead after one half of play, they scored the first seven points of the second half. Parsons' layup about 1 1/2 minutes in gave Florida a 47-32 lead, and the Gators held a double-digit edge the rest of the way.
Florida will host Florida A&M on Tuesday night, while UMKC hosts Oakland on Thursday...It was the first ever meeting between both schools...The Gators shot 55.7 percent from the field, compared to 42.2 percent for UMKC.
