Igarashi takes flyweight crown from Jaro
Saitama, Japan (Sports Network) - Toshiyuki Igarashi won a split decision Monday over Sonny Boy Jaro to capture the WBC flyweight title.
Igarashi won by scores of 116-112 and 115-113 on two cards, while one judge saw the fight in Jaro's favor by a 116-112 count.
It was the ninth straight win for Igarashi, who improved to 16-1-1 with 10 knockouts.
Jaro was making his first title defense after claiming the crown in March with a sixth-round TKO of Pongsaklek Wonjongkam. The Filipino had a five-fight win streak stopped and lost for the first time since February 2011, falling to 34-11-5.
