Sun break through against Storm

Uncasville, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - Rookie Chiney Ogwumike tallied 18 points and seven rebounds to lead the Connecticut Sun to their first win of the season, a 71-59 decision over the Seattle Storm Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Allison Hightower added 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting for the Sun, who had dropped their initial three contests of the campaign. Kelsey Bone scored seven of her 13 points in the fourth quarter to help Connecticut pull away down the stretch.

The Sun never trailed after the opening quarter and went ahead by double digits when Ogwumike followed a Kelsey Griffin layup with a short jumper for a 50-40 advantage with under three minutes left in the third period. Seattle pulled within 54-48 on a Temeka Johnson basket to begin the fourth, but Bone's 3-point play and a pair of Ogwumike baskets highlighted an 11-2 Connecticut run later on that extended the margin to 71-54 with 2:53 remaining.

Seattle, which shot just 37.3 percent from the floor and committed 15 turnovers that resulted in 17 Sun points, were paced by Crystal Langhorne's 15 points while falling to 0-3 on the season.
