Dixon leads 1-2 sweep for Ganassi at Mid-Ohio

Lexington, OH (Sports Network) - Scott Dixon picked up his first IZOD IndyCar Series win of the season, while his Chip Ganassi Racing teammate, Dario Franchitti, widened his points lead with a second-place finish in Sunday's Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Dixon, the pole sitter, passed Franchitti for the lead just after a restart with 24 laps remaining. He easily beat Franchitti at the finish by 7.7 seconds for his third win at this 2.258-mile, 13-turn road course. His first two victories here came in 2007 and '09.

"It was a superb job by Team Target to get a 1-2 today," said Dixon, who led a total of 50 laps. "I'm just happy for the guys. We've worked so hard to get the pole [Saturday] and come back today was fantastic."

Franchitti's second-place finish allowed him to take a 62-point lead over Will Power, who finished 14th. Power had to make his final pit stop during the second and final caution, which cost him an opportunity to win.

"Let's be honest, Scott had one of those days today," Franchitti said. "He was in a different zip code, and he deserved to win it. From the time we came here for testing [July 28], he's been on a mission."

Ryan Hunter-Reay finished third, followed by Takuma Sato and Tony Kanaan.

Alex Tagliani, Marco Andretti, Oriol Servia, Sebastian Bourdais and Vitor Meira completed the top-10.

Rookie James Hinchcliffe led 26 laps during the mid-stages but fell off the pace in the late going to finish 20th, one spot ahead of Danica Patrick.

The 85-lap race at Mid-Ohio ran relatively incident free compared to the previous two races held in Toronto and Edmonton, Canada.

Last week, IndyCar officials cracked down on aggressive driving by placing drivers Mike Conway, Hunter-Reay and Tagliani on probation for the remainder of the year for "multiple instances of initiating avoidable contact" in several road/street course races, including Toronto and Edmonton, this season.
