                === Shani Davis won't race the 10,000 meters ===

 Torino, Italy (Sports Network) - American speedskater Shani Davis has pulled
 out of the men's 10,000 meters event at the Torino Olympics, the USOC said.

 Davis has won two medals here already: a gold in the 1,000m and a silver in the
 1,500m. He qualified for the 10,000m based on his seventh-place finish in the
 5,000m on Day 1 of the Games.

 Taking Davis's place in Friday's race will be Charles Ryan Leveille, who also
 filled in when Davis pulled out of the team pursuit race last week.

 That first withdrawal sparked a contentious war of words between Davis and
 teammate Chad Hedrick, who felt it jeopardized the chance of a U.S. gold medal
 and his own chances of a tying a record by winning five golds in Torino.

 Hedrick and the Americans finished sixth in the team pursuit event. Hedrick
 placed second when Davis won the 1,000m and finished in bronze position behind
 Davis in the 1,500m.
