Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Tyler Hansen passed for 215 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for two more scores to lead Colorado to a 28-14 win over instate rival Colorado State at Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium.

Rodney Stewart rushed for 98 yards on 19 carries, and also caught seven balls for 93 yards for Colorado (1-2), which won its second consecutive game over Colorado State (2-1).

Quarterback Pete Thomas completed 18-of-28 for 157 yards for the Rams, while receiver Crockett Gillmore caught five passes for 84 yards and one touchdown.

The rivalry game featured no turnovers, but both teams were heavily penalized. Colorado was flagged 10 times for 114 yards, while Colorado State gave up 75 yards on nine penalties.

Thomas put Colorado State up early with a four-yard touchdown run after driving the Rams 80 yards in nine plays.

Colorado didn't get on the scoreboard until 2:37 remaining in the first half, when quarterback Tyler Hansen rushed for a two-yard touchdown to tie the game at seven.

The Buffaloes got the ball back with under two minutes remaining in the half, and Hansen orchestrated a seven-play, 60-yard drive that culminated in a 24- yard touchdown pass to Kyle Cefalo with 12 seconds remaining before halftime.

Leading 14-7, Hansen found Toney Clemons on a 44-yard touchdown pass with 3:12 remaining in the third quarter that gave Colorado a 21-7 lead.

The Rams pulled within seven after receiver Charles Lovett hit Crockett Gillmore for a 23-yard touchdown pass with 14:20 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Hansen wasn't finished, however. He found the end zone on a two-yard run with 1:15 to play after driving Colorado 85 yards in 16 plays, which chewed up over 10 minutes of clock and gave the Buffaloes a 28-14 lead that they wouldn't relinquish.

The victory was the first for new Colorado head coach Jon Embree.
