Anaheim Ducks (6-1-1) at Colorado Avalanche (4-5-0), 9:30 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Anaheim Ducks look to further their best start in six seasons on Wednesday night as they visit the Colorado Avalanche to open up a six-game road trip.
The Ducks finished off a perfect three-game homestand on Monday with a 2-1 win over San Jose, dealing the Sharks their first regulation loss of the campaign. Viktor Fasth gave up a goal in the first period, but made 25 saves in all to win for the third time in as many NHL starts.
Saku Koivu and Sheldon Souray made the backup netminder's performance hold up with third-period goals as Anaheim pushed its point streak to five games (4-0-1).
"We had a good team effort against a great team," said Koivu. "So far this season we're playing great in the third period. We're gaining confidence and playing better as a team."
At 6-1-1, the Ducks are off to their best start since they began their Stanley Cup-winning 2006-07 campaign 6-0-2.
The Ducks played on Monday without defenseman Cam Fowler, who is day-to-day with an upper-body injury suffered on Saturday in a win over the Los Angeles Kings.
Anaheim is 2-0-1 on the road and won't play its next home game until Feb. 18.
Colorado, meanwhile, plays the third contest of a four-game homestand and was denied a third straight victory on Monday with a 3-2 loss to the Dallas Stars.
P.A. Parenteau scored his fourth goal in three games, and team-leading seventh of the season, while Milan Hejduk added a goal and Semyon Varlamov made 23 saves.
"I thought we had some good chances out there tonight, but the pucks just aren't going in," said Hejduk, who became the first player to reach 1,000 games played in Avalanche history. "It's a little tough to lose these games, especially in such a short season."
The loss was the first at home for the Avs this season (3-1-0) and on Wednesday they'll try to extend the momentum they created over the Ducks last season.
The Avalanche won three of the four encounters after having gone 2-13-2 in the previous 17 meetings. That includes a pair of wins at home to snap a six-game slide to Anaheim in Colorado.
