San Antonio Spurs (39-12) at Brooklyn Nets (29-21), 8 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The San Antonio Spurs will try to bounce back from a rare
loss and become the first team to 40 wins when they resume a rodeo road trip
Sunday night against the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center.
The Spurs had an 11-game winning streak come to an end with Friday's 119-109
loss against the Detroit Pistons and allowed 30 or more points in each of the
first three quarters of play. Greg Monroe led the hosts with 26 points and 16
rebounds, while Tony Parker had 31 points and eight assists for the Spurs.
Kawhi Leonard scored 16 points and Danny Green added 15 in the loss, San
Antonio's first since Jan. 11 at Memphis. The Spurs also had won four in a row
on the road and dropped to 1-1 on the nine-game excursion.
"We are not going to try and find any excuses," said Parker, who has scored
30-plus points in three of the last five games. "They just played well and you
have to give them credit. They made a lot of threes when they needed it and
they made stops when they needed it."
The Spurs were without All-Star forward Tim Duncan (knee) and guard Manu
Ginobili (hamstring). Both are listed as questionable against the Nets.
San Antonio, which is fourth in the NBA with 104.2 ppg, owns a 17-10 record
away from the Alamo City this season.
Brooklyn has struggled recently with five losses in its last eight games, and
will play five of its next seven contests at home after suffering an 89-74
setback at Washington the last time out on Friday.
Deron Williams had 20 points and Joe Johnson followed with 14 in the loss.
Brook Lopez registered 13 points for Brooklyn, which was outscored by a 30-11
margin in the second quarter and is 15-7 under interim coach P.J. Carlesimo.
"We just didn't have that continuity, we weren't on the same page," Johnson
said of the second quarter. "They made a run and we couldn't bounce back from
it for whatever reason."
The Nets, who are a solid 18-9 at home, will visit Indiana Monday night and
lost the first meeting of the season with San Antonio by a lopsided 104-73
score on Dec. 31 at the AT&T Center.
Parker had 20 points and six assists in that one for the Spurs, who have won
four straight and 18 of the past 19 matchups with the Nets. The Spurs are 8-1
in the last nine as the guest in this series and 61-19 overall.
