Final Score: Minnesota 105, Philadelphia 88
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Alexey Shved scored 17 points and Josh
Howard had 16 to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves past the Philadelphia 76ers,
105-88, on Tuesday.
J.J. Barea had 11 points while Derrick Williams, Luke Ridnour and Malcolm Lee
added 10 apiece for the Timberwolves, winners in three of their last four.
"We talked about how every game on the road we have gotten off to good starts,
but we maintained it tonight," Minnesota head coach Rick Adelman said. "The
bench came in and did a terrific job to expand the lead. It was a solid win."
Evan Turner poured in a game-high 19 points and Jrue Holiday had 13 points and
nine assists for the Sixers, who have dropped their last two on the heels of a
three-game winning streak.
Jason Richardson had 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists and Thaddeus
Young chipped in with 13 points in the setback.
"It was a rough game for us," Richardson said. "We did a good job taking away
their main two guys out, but other guys on their team stepped up and that is
how they won the game."
Minnesota shot 59.1 percent from the field in the first quarter, and led 34-21
after the first 12 minutes. Lee's 3-pointer with 4:18 left in the first
sparked an 11-0 run to give the Wolves a 31-19 lead, and a trio of Shved free
throws at the end of the frame put Minnesota up 13.
The Wolves were able to push their lead to 65-47 at the break, thanks to a
10-0 run early in the second quarter. Minnesota led 65-42 with 1:22 left in
the first half, but the Sixers scored the final five points of the stanza to
cut their deficit to 18.
Philadelphia shot just 38 percent in the third period while the Wolves went 9-
for-20 from the floor -- including 4-for-7 from 3-point range -- to push their
lead to 87-67 entering the fourth. The Sixers, though, couldn't make up enough
ground over the final 12 minutes and Minnesota cruised to an easy win.
