Description: The Dodgers have activated Brian Wilson from the 15-day disabled list.
Insight: Wilson went on the DL with a nerve irritation in his right elbow on April 1. He'll step back into the Dodgers' setup role.

Description: The Dodgers have placed set-up man Brian Wilson on the 15-day disabled list with a nerve irritation in his right elbow, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.
Insight: The good news is that he doesn't have any ligament damage. Wilson has only thrown 16 2/3 innings since the beginning of 2012 due to Tommy John surgery. He allowed three runs (two earned) without getting an out Sunday night at San Diego. Former Indians closer Chris Perez will likely move into the eighth-inning role for Los Angeles.

Insight: Ten million to be a setup man? We knew the Dodgers had a lot of money but this is ridiculous. Wilson isn't a fantasy candidate for the time being but that could change if Kenley Jansen suffers an injury or starts pitching poorly.

Insight: That's not what fantasy owners wanted to hear. Wilson was hoping to land a ninth inning job this offseason but instead he's coming back to setup Kenley Jansen. Wilson could overtake Jansen if he struggles in the early going or gets hurt. Wilson's contract will be a one-year deal.

Insight: The Tigers have also shown an interest in former Twins and Rangers ninth inning man Joe Nathan. Wilson was excellent in limited action for the Dodgers this past season, compiling a 0.66 ERA in 13 2/3 innings.
8/22/2013 6:53:00 PM
Description: Brian Wilson threw a scoreless inning Thursday in his Dodgers debut.
Insight: Donning the rarely seen number double-zero, Wilson fanned two and gave up one hit in his lone inning of work. His fastball topped out at 94, which is pretty respectable for a guy coming off Tommy John surgery. As long as Wilson can stay healthy, he should have a bright future as LA's setup man.
8/19/2013 7:20:00 PM
Description: Dodgers reliever Brian Wilson has been activated from the disabled list.
Insight: Wilson hasn't pitched in the majors since April of 2012. Wilson pitched well in his rehab games and he should be a nice addition to the Dodgers' pen. Just don't expect him to get many save opportunities.

Description: The Dodgers are expected to activate reliever Brian Wilson from the disabled list on Sunday. SOURCE: Bill Plunkett, Orange County Register
Insight: Wilson didn't allow a run during his brief rehab assignment (4 1/3 scoreless innings). It doesn't look like he's going to close for the Dodgers, which limits his fantasy value. Wilson owns a 3.21 ERA in 315 big league appearances, all of which have come as a member of the Giants.
8/12/2013 11:08:00 AM
Description: Dodgers reliever Brian Wilson pitched at Triple-A Albuquerque Sunday and could be called up by the end of the week, according to
Insight: Wilson, who signed a one-year deal with Los Angeles just prior to the trade deadline, would be a setup man for Kenley Jansen and excellent insurance in case the closer gets injured.

Insight: He's eligible to come off the disabled list next Tuesday though he could need more time. Wilson signed a one-year pact with Los Angeles just prior to the trade deadline.
7/30/2013 3:58:00 PM
Description: According to Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports, the Dodgers have signed rehabbing reliever Brian Wilson to a one-year contract. He has been placed on the 15-day DL.
Insight: The 31-year-old hasn't pitched in the big leagues since undergoing Tommy John surgery last April. The team hasn't indicated if he'll take the closer role from Kenley Jansen, but it's doubtful he'll be thrown into the fire right away when he returns in two weeks.
7/28/2013 5:21:00 PM
Description: According to Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports, former Giants closer Brian Wilson is hoping to return to the majors by mid-August.
Insight: The 31-year-old hasn't pitched in the big leagues since undergoing Tommy John surgery last April. He auditioned for teams this week and reportedly looked good.
7/25/2013 9:36:00 PM
Description: According to Danny Knobler of, a scout said that former San Francisco closer Brian Wilson "looked good" during his audition Thursday and added that Wilson is "not far away."
Insight: Wilson threw for several teams Thursday. The scout said Wilson's fastball was 90-93 mph. The 31-year-old hasn't pitched in the big leagues since undergoing Tommy John surgery last April.

Description: Brian Wilson looked sharp in a throwing session on Monday. SOURCE: Andrew Baggarly, Comcast Sports Bay Area
Insight: He worked out for Giants pitching coach Dave Righetti at the University of San Francisco and looked, as one scout put it, "game ready." Wilson probably wouldn't be the closer if he came back to San Francisco (Sergio Romo handles the ninth inning) but he'd certainly give the team an emotional lift after a disappointing start to the season.
7/10/2013 9:57:00 PM
Description: ESPN's Buster Olney mentioned the A's, Giants, Red Sox and Tigers as teams that could be interested in signing free agent reliever Brian Wilson.
Insight: Wilson has been working out in Hawaii and is said to be targeting a return to the majors sometime next month. His last big league appearance came on April 12, 2012.
7/9/2013 5:07:00 PM
Description: According to Buster Olney of ESPN, former Giants closer Brian Wilson could audition for scouts around Aug. 1.
Insight: Wilson hasn't pitched since undergoing Tommy John surgery last April. If his auditions go well, he could wind up as some team's closer down the stretch.
1/13/2013 3:41:00 PM
Description: Former Giants closer Brian Wilson worked out with the Mets on Saturday.
Insight: Wilson missed most of the 2012 season after undergoing his second Tommy John surgery. He became a free agent after the Giants non-tendered him earlier this offseason.
12/1/2012 4:36:00 PM
Description: One day after being non-tendered by the Giants, closer Brian Wilson reportedly has "zero interest" in returning to the team. SOURCE: Henry Schulman, San Francisco Chronicle
Insight: ESPN's Jim Bowden noted via Twitter that a source said Wilson has interest in the Giants, Dodgers, Angels and Red Sox. Schulman responded saying he was told Wilson feels disrespected by the Giants, adding that one person who knows the right-hander said he's "pouting" and could change his mind. There's no guarantee the Giants even want him back coming off his second Tommy John surgery. Sergio Romo locked down the closer role down the stretch in 2012 after taking the reigns from Santiago Casilla.
11/29/2012 11:17:00 AM
Description: Scott Lauber from the Boston Herald says the Red Sox could target reliever Brian Wilson if San Francisco doesn't tender him a new contract.
Insight: Wilson grew up in the Boston area so there could be a little incentive to work out a deal if he becomes available. The Red Sox already have a capable closer in Andrew Bailey and still need to fill holes at first base, shortstop and both of the corner outfield positions so signing Wilson probably won't be a top priority for them this winter.
4/16/2012 9:22:00 PM
Description: Brian Wilson's elbow injury is being classified as a moderate UCL sprain.
Insight: Wilson's ulnar collateral ligament actually isn't torn, so already the injury isn't as severe as we thought. Wilson is set to visit Dr. James Andrews later this week for a second opinion and though it's possible that Wilson could opt for rehab instead, it's pretty likely that he'll choose to have Tommy John surgery.
