Description: Matt Garza had a no-hitter for 6 2/3 innings in his Brewers debut Wednesday but gave up a homer to Chris Johnson and ended up with a 1-0 loss.
Insight: Garza gave up two hits and struck out seven in eight innings. The right-hander should be thrilled to be back in the National League -- he had a 3.17 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP in 71 innings with the Cubs last season, compared to 4.38 and 1.32 with the Rangers.

Description: The Brewers have finalized a four-year, $50 million contract with Matt Garza, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The deal was reported by Ken Rosenthal a few days ago but the official announcement was delayed.
Insight: Garza will benefit from a return to the NL Central after posting a 4.38 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP in 84 1/3 innings with the Texas Rangers last season following a trade from the Chicago Cubs. Garza has recorded an ERA of 3.91 or lower in each of the last seven seasons but only once had one lower than 3.69 (3.32 in 2011).

Description: Updating a previous report, the Brewers and Matt Garza are still in talks and no deal is official yet. SOURCE: Brewers on Twitter
Insight: We imagine the deal will be finalized within the next 24 hours. Fox's Ken Rosenthal was the first to report that Garza had signed with Milwaukee for four years and $52 million. It seems like most teams were waiting to see what happened with Masahiro Tanaka before making any big moves. Now that Tanaka is with New York, we should see a lot of free agent signings in the next week.

Description: Righthander Matt Garza has agreed to a four-year, $52 million deal with Milwaukee, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.
Insight: The deal is pending a physical which is not a given with Garza, particularly with the elbow issues he's experienced over the last few seasons. Garza was 10-6 last season with a 3.82 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 136 Ks in 155 1/3 IP.

11/12/2013 7:44:00 PM
Description: A return to Texas seems unlikely for free agent righthander Matt Garza.
Insight: The Rangers' mid-season acquisition of Garza was always thought of as a rental and now Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram is confirming what we already believed. San Francisco has been linked to Garza in recent days though plenty of other teams should come out of the woodwork as the winter rolls on.

9/21/2013 10:18:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Matt Garza pitched into the ninth inning and allowed just one run on five hits Saturday against the Royals.
Insight: Garza entered Saturday with a 4.94 ERA in 71 innings since joining Texas, including a 5.72 ERA over his last nine starts.

9/11/2013 10:14:00 PM
Description: In 10 starts with the Texas Rangers, Matt Garza has a 4.45 ERA.
Insight: He lasted just four innings Wednesday against Pittsburgh and allowed three runs on four hits with four walks and six strikeouts. His biggest issue with the Rangers has been the longball; he has given up 10 of them in 66 2/3 innings.

9/1/2013 8:35:00 AM
Description: After allowing at least four earned runs in his first five starts of August, Texas right-hander Matt Garza gave up one on three hits over seven innings Saturday against the Twins.
Insight: Garza struck out nine Saturday and 25 over his last 20 2/3 innings. He's 3-2 with a 4.04 ERA in eight starts since joining Texas.

7/29/2013 10:15:00 PM
Description: Rangers starter Matt Garza failed to win his seventh straight start Monday against the Angels but he did throw a quality outing.
Insight: Garza allowed three runs and struck out six in seven innings in a no decision. Since allowing nine earned runs in five innings on June 11, Garza has gone 6-0 and allowed nine earned runs total over his last 58 frames (1.40 ERA).

Description: The Cubs have traded righthander Matt Garza to Texas for Mike Olt, C.J. Edwards, Justin Grimm and a player to be named later. SOURCE: Bruce Levine, ESPN Chicago
Insight: Olt is a top prospect and Grimm has shown potential, so it's not a bad haul for the Cubs. Garza probably wasn't going to re-sign with Chicago anyway. The Rangers will be Garza's fourth team in eight major league seasons.

Description: Updating a previous item, Cubs starter Matt Garza will not pitch Monday against the Diamondbacks. SOURCE: Ken Rosenthal, Fox Sports
Insight: Chicago is close to trading Garza to the Rangers and the deal should be completed later tonight. The Cubs have not announced who will start in Garza's place.

7/22/2013 11:41:00 AM
Description: Cubs right-hander Matt Garza may be headed out of town before the trade deadline, but Chicago will get at least one more start from him - Monday night versus Arizona.
Insight: For the Cubs' sake, we hope Garza comes out of the game without any injury which would sink their trade plans. He's a solid 6-1 with a 3.17 ERA and 1.141 WHIP in 11 starts. At least five contending teams have shown serious interest.

7/20/2013 4:03:00 PM
Description: It appeared Matt Garza was headed to the Rangers but now that deal has hit a snag. SOURCE: Jeff Passan, Yahoo Sports
Insight: As of Friday afternoon the deal was "99 percent done" but now it's no longer a certainty. Assuming he hasn't already been traded, the righthander is scheduled to start for the Cubs Monday against Arizona.

7/14/2013 4:05:00 PM
Description: According to Bruce Levine from ESPN Dallas, Texas and Toronto have emerged as front runners in the Matt Garza sweepstakes.
Insight: The Chicago Tribune reported Sunday that Garza would likely be traded before his next start. If for some reason the Jays or Rangers lose interest, look for the Dodgers, Nationals, Orioles, Pirates, Red Sox and Tigers to get involved.

7/8/2013 8:09:00 PM
Description: Once thought to be on the trading block, Matt Garza and the Cubs are now talking about a long-term deal. SOURCE: Jon Heyman, CBS Sports
Insight: Garza's been on a roll lately with three wins and a 0.90 ERA in his last four starts. If the Cubs change their mind and make Garza available in a trade, several teams will be interested including the Blue Jays, Dodgers, Indians, Nationals, Orioles, Rangers and Red Sox.

Hot7/4/2013 10:16:00 AM
Description: Chicago starter Matt Garza won his third straight start Wednesday at Oakland with eight innings of four-hit, one-run baseball.
Insight: Garza has allowed three earned runs on 19 hits over his last 30 innings. He helped Chicago snap Bartolo Colon's eight-start winning streak.

Hot6/27/2013 9:46:00 PM
Description: Chicago starter Matt Garza is heating up. Thursday was his second win in a row.
Insight: Thursday against the Brewers, Garza finished with ten strikeouts, his most since April 29th of last season. Over his last three starts, Garza is undefeated with a 0.82 ERA in 22 innings pitched.

6/21/2013 9:35:00 PM
Description: Cubs starter Matt Garza gave up four hits and one run, walked two and struck out eight in eight innings Friday against the Astros.
Insight: Garza has put together his two best starts of the season over his last two turns, throwing 15 innings and allowing seven hits and one earned run. He has lowered his ERA from 6.26 to 4.25 in the process.

6/16/2013 7:42:00 PM
Description: Chicago righthander Matt Garza pitched brilliantly Sunday against New York, but his bullpen let him down by coughing up a three-run lead in the ninth inning.
Insight: Garza (1-1, 4.98 ERA) breezed through seven shutout innings, allowing three hits and two walks while collecting five punchouts. Maybe his bullpen will keep it together the next time he pitches Friday against Houston.

5/21/2013 10:33:00 PM
Description: Cubs starter Matt Garza (lat) allowed just one hit and no runs in five innings Tuesday against the Pirates in his first start since July 21, 2012.
Insight: Garza suffered an elbow injury last July, and while he has been completely healed for awhile, he went down with a lat strain in spring training and missed the first seven weeks of the season. The right-hander should post an ERA under 4.00 with close to a strikeout per inning, but he won't win many games on this team.
