Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Josmil Pinto and Eduardo Nunez each stroked an RBI single during a three-run eighth-inning that sent the Minnesota Twins to a 4-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers in the rubber match of a three-game set Sunday at Comerica Park.
The Twins trailed 3-1 to start the eighth, but Joba Chamberlain (1-2) plunked Brian Dozier and walked Joe Mauer before bouncing back with consecutive strikeouts.
Pinto then pulled a 3-2 pitch down the left-field line that snuck past Rajai Davis and rolled all the way to the wall. Dozier scored easily on the play, while Davis' miscue allowed Mauer to score for the tying run.
Nunez followed with a single back up the middle to plate Pinto for a 4-3 lead.
Glen Perkins replaced an injured Casey Fien with two outs in the bottom of the eighth and flied out pinch-hitter Nick Castellanos before working a 1-2-3 ninth to nail down his 10th save of the season.
Jared Burton (1-1) picked up the win after spinning a perfect seventh inning in relief of starter Samuel Deduno, who allowed three runs on six hits while striking out five over six innings.
Ian Kinsler clubbed a solo homer and scored twice for the Tigers, who have lost three of their last four games on the heels of an eight-game win streak.
Kinsler helped the Tigers jump out to a 1-0 lead in the first when he stroked a leadoff double, moved to third on a groundout and scored on Miguel Cabrera's sacrifice fly to center field.
Detroit tacked on another run in the fourth on Austin Jackson's run-scoring single before Kinsler clubbed his third homer of the season to start the fifth, giving the Tigers a 3-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Detroit starter Robbie Ray didn't allow a runner to move past second throughout his solid outing, scattering four hits and a walk over six scoreless innings.
However, the Tigers' bullpen was unable to maintain the lead, as the Twins scored once in the seventh and three more times in the eighth.
Detroit reliever Al Alburquerque retired Chris Colabello and Nunez around a Pinto single in the seventh before being replaced by Ian Krol. Chris Parmelee greeted Krol with a single to right and pinch-hitter Danny Santana followed suit with a base hit to right, plating Pinto to bring the visitors within 3-1.
Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire was ejected in the bottom of the fourth inning ... Jackson went 1-for-4 to extend his hit streak to nine games ... Fien left the game in the eighth inning after being hit in the arm by a line drive off the bat of Victor Martinez ...
