Backstrom on a roll

Nicklas Backstrom has scored in 13 of his last 15 contests.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - It's not like he's going to be available for a waiver wire pickup in your league, but Washington Capitals centerman Nicklas Backstrom (99% ownership) is playing unbelievably of late.

Backstrom had a five-point game (1G, 4A) on Thursday, his sixth consecutive game with at least one point. He is in the midst of a hot streak that has seen him score in 13 of his last 15 contests (23 points).

Not that this was completely unexpected.

Playing on a line with the "out of this world" Alex Ovechkin and either Alexander Semin or Mike Knuble has its benefits. But Backstrom (ADP 22) was the third of the group to be selected (Ovechkin's ADP 1, Semin's ADP 15) and is posting better numbers than Semin and better than most any other mere "human."

Also, considering that earlier in the year Capitals' coach Bruce Boudreau had broken up the top line in an effort to get the second and third lines going, it's good to see the No.1 trio back together and doing what they are paid to do.

The 2006 first-round pick of the Capitals (fourth overall) has already set a career high in goals and should easily break personal marks in assists, points, shots and plus/minus rating.

Could you trade for him if you don't already have him on your roster? Not likely and it would cost you an arm-and-a-leg because he is at his peak fantasy value. If you already have him in your lineup, just sit back and enjoy the ride.
