Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
With the exception of Tampa Bay's James Shields, most of the guys on today's lists are not the mainstays of your fantasy roster. Your decision to add, drop or sit these guys, however, could be integral to a successful stretch drive.
John Danks, Chicago White Sox - It was just two months ago that Danks was 0-8 with a 5.25 ERA. Apparently the "light switch" went on heading into June as he's 4-0 since that point with an ERA of 0.98 and a WHIP of 0.982. He's owned in 50% of all leagues, so could easily be a nice waiver claim for the remainder of the season. The White Sox have a second hot pitcher in Gavin Floyd who has won his last three outings while yielding just two earned runs in 22.1 innings. He's also owned in about half of all leagues.
Scott Baker, Minnesota - Baker is posting the best pitching statistics of his career, with a low ERA of 2.86 and a WHIP of 1.158. He's won three of his past four starts, yielding just two earned runs and a WHIP of 0.945. His next outing is against Joel Pineiro on Wednesday (see below) so you should make a waiver claim immediately in the three of 10 leagues where he is available.
Matt Harrison, Tex - Harrison's mediocre won/loss record should not deter you from putting the Texas lefthander on your roster. He's got a solid ERA of 2.94 and a WHIP of 1.24. He's been even better over his last three starts, going 2-0 with an ERA of 2.49 and a WHIP of 1.06. Harrison is another "50- percent owned" guy.
Philip Humber, Chicago White Sox - While Danks and Floyd are pitching well, Humber is at the other end of the spectrum. He may have a winning record, but in his last three starts he's 0-3 with an ugly ERA of 9.00 and an equally bad WHIP of 2.00. I know there are better options out there for you, pick one.
Joel Pineiro, Anaheim - The Angels have a solid pitching staff, but right now Pineiro isn't part of it. Over his last three starts he's 0-2 with an ERA of 15.00 and a WHIP of 3.00. Which explains why his ownership level is below 10- percent and falling.
James Shields, Tampa Bay - "Big Game" Shields has posted a very good ERA (3.03) and WHIP (1.073) for the year, but he hasn't been pitching well of late. He's just 1-2 in his last three starts with an inflated ERA of 8.66 and WHIP of 1.81. You should consider sitting him for Wednesday's game against the hard-hitting Blue Jays (ranked fifth in the majors - scoring 4.72 runs-per- game) and hope that he'll turn it around soon.
