Dallas Cowboys Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

DeMarco Murray, RB6/16/2014 1:47:00 PM
Description: Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray set personal records for rushing attempts (217), rushing yards (1,124), rushing touchdowns (9) , receptions (53) and receiving yards (350) in 2013-14.
Insight: Two factors made it possible. Murray started and played in 14 games, the most in his three professional seasons and the Cowboys didn't re-sign Felix Jones. Dallas doesn't have a No. 2 back to challenge Murray on their roster, so if healthy, Murray should be able to reproduce last year's fantasy totals.
Sean Lee, LB6/12/2014 2:46:00 PM
Description: Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee had surgery on his torn left ACL Thursday.
Insight: Lee suffered the injury on the first day of OTAs Tuesday. Dallas, who finished last in the NFL in yards allowed last season already lost Jason Hatcher and DeMarcus Ware for financial reasons. This doesn't bode well for the Cowboys.
Sean Lee, LB5/27/2014 10:28:00 PM
Description: Sources told Ed Werder of ESPN that Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee has been told his MRI confirmed a torn ACL in his left knee. The team will provide an official diagnosis Wednesday.
Insight: Lee suffered the injury on the first day of OTAs Tuesday. He's been one of the top inside linebackers in football when healthy but often has been injured going back to college. He tore his right ACL at Penn State and has sustained a dislocated wrist, sprained toe, strained neck and torn left ACL in four years in the NFL. Dallas finished last in the NFL in yards allowed last season and had to let Jason Hatcher and DeMarcus Ware go due to salary cap issues. Now they'll be without Lee for the entire year.
Sean Lee, LB5/27/2014 6:38:00 PM
Description: According to the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys believe linebacker Sean Lee suffered a torn left ACL during the first day of OTAs on Tuesday.
Insight: Lee had to be helped off the field by trainers on Tuesday. He's been one of the top inside linebackers in football when healthy but often has been injured going back to college. He tore an ACL at Penn State and has sustained a dislocated wrist, sprained toe and strained neck in four years in the NFL. Dallas finished last in the NFL in yards allowed last season and had to let Jason Hatcher and DeMarcus Ware go due to salary cap issues.
Kyle Orton, QB5/22/2014 10:33:00 PM
Description: Cowboys QB Kyle Orton has told the team he plans to retire. SOURCE: Ian Rapoport, NFL.com
Insight: Orton completed 30-of-46 passes for 358 yards and two touchdowns last year in his only start of the season. The 31-year-old has played for four different teams during his eight seasons in the league.
Ryan Williams, RB5/18/2014 4:32:00 PM
Description: Former Cardinals second-round pick Ryan Williams has reached terms with Dallas on a new contract. SOURCE: Calvin Watkins, ESPN Dallas
Insight: He doesn't figure to see much playing time with DeMarco Murray, Lance Dunbar and possibly Joseph Randle ahead of him on the depth chart. At age 24, there's still time for Williams to resurrect his career. We're just not sure he'll see enough touches to make an impact in Big D.
Tony Romo, QB5/6/2014 5:53:00 PM
Description: Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Tuesday that the team thinks that QB Tony Romo is "essentially in the prime of his career," according to the Dallas Morning News.
Insight: "I think his arm is better than ever, so we don't look at him despite his back situation that he's had over the last couple of years as somebody who is an old player by any means," Garrett said. "He simply needs to rehab his back and get himself healthy and get going again. We feel like Tony Romo has a lot of years of great football left in him." Despite Garrett's comments, we won't be surprised if Dallas takes a quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft.
Henry Melton, DL3/18/2014 8:40:00 PM
Description: Henry Melton has agreed to a deal with Dallas, though contract details have yet to be released. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: It's been a turbulent offseason for the Cowboys but they finally get a win here. Melton, a Pro Bowler in 2012, was probably the best player left on the market. He's coming off a torn ACL, though it sounds like he'll be ready for training camp in a few months.
Brandon Weeden, QB3/17/2014 4:56:00 PM
Description: Brandon Weeden has signed a two-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys.
Insight: Barring injury, Weeden's fantasy value is zero. Tony Romo did have offseason surgery, but should be ready to go by training camp.
DeMarcus Ware, DE3/11/2014 10:15:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Broncos are the early favorites to land defensive end DeMarcus Ware in free agency.
Insight: The Broncos finished 13th in the league in sacks last season, though that came with Von Miller being suspended for half the season. Either way, adding Ware to the mix would make Denver's pass rush almost unstoppable.
DeMarcus Ware, DE3/11/2014 7:55:00 PM
Description: Four hours after being released, DeMarcus Ware is already considering a return to Dallas. SOURCE: Dallas Morning News
Insight: If Ware isn't able to get what he thinks he's worth on the open market, taking less money to stay with Dallas could be an option. We consider that a longshot though as Ware has already fielded calls from at least a half-dozen teams.
Miles Austin, WR3/11/2014 7:48:00 PM
Description: The Cowboys cut Miles Austin on Tuesday. SOURCE: Dallas Morning News
Insight: The quest for cap space continues for Dallas. This move frees up about $5.5 million. Perhaps the Cowboys will use some of that money to bring back DeMarcus Ware on a more affordable deal. Austin's fantasy value is at an all-time low.
DeMarcus Ware, DE3/11/2014 4:15:00 PM
Description: Star pass rusher DeMarcus Ware wouldn't take a pay cut and now the Cowboys have released him.
Insight: Ware recorded 40 tackles and six sacks last season. Overall, he had 117 sacks during his 10-year stay in Dallas. ESPN's Adam Schefter believes many teams will be interested in Ware this offseason including the Saints, Patriots and Eagles.
DeMarcus Ware, DE3/5/2014 7:59:00 PM
Description: If DeMarcus Ware wants to stay in Dallas, he'll need to take a pay cut.
Insight: That's according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The Cowboys are having a hard time getting under the salary cap and may need to make some tough decisions. For what it's worth, Ware recorded 40 tackles and six sacks last season.
Tony Romo, QB3/4/2014 6:40:00 PM
Description: Dallas quarterback Tony Romo has restructured his contract. SOURCE: ESPN Dallas
Insight: Romo will still earn the same amount of money but instead of getting a $13.5 million base salary next season, $12.5 million will be attached to his signing bonus with just $1 million going against the cap. Obviously, this won't affect Romo's fantasy value in any way.
DeMarcus Ware, DE2/11/2014 6:49:00 PM
Description: Cowboys All-Pro defensive end DeMarcus Ware is headed for elbow surgery. SOURCE: Todd Archer, ESPN Dallas
Insight: He'll have his right elbow operated on next Tuesday. Ware (40 tackles and six sacks in 2013) expects to be fully healthy by the start of training camp in a few months.
Tony Romo, QB2/6/2014 1:48:00 PM
Description: Cowboys QB Tony Romo should be ready for the next level in his rehab from surgery to relieve the pressure of a herniated disk in the next week or two.
Insight: He's on to low-impact work after going through basic core exercises since the Dec 27 surgery. Romo is expected to be ready for training camp. He put up solid numbers last season with 3,828 passing yards, 31 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions in 15 games.
Josh Brent, DT1/25/2014 11:37:00 AM
Description: Former Dallas defensive tackle Josh Brent has been sentenced to 180 days in jail and 10 years probation for intoxication manslaughter. SOURCE: Calvin Watkins, ESPN Dallas
Insight: Brent killed his teammate Jerry Brown last year in a car accident. Toxicology reports showed that Brent was well over the legal drinking limit when the crash took place. Brent retired last offseason after three seasons in the NFL. Considering the 20-year maximum sentence he was facing, it seems like Brent got off pretty easy.
Dan Bailey, K1/23/2014 5:54:00 PM
Description: Cowboys kicker Dan Bailey has agreed to a six-year, $22.5 million contract extension. SOURCE: Ian Rapoport, NFL Network
Insight: His deal expires after the 2020 season. Bailey, who is set to earn $3.75 million per season, went 28-for-30 on field goal tries in 2013.
Tony Romo, QB12/27/2013 11:58:00 AM
Description: It's official: Tony Romo is out for the season after undergoing surgery on his back, according to DallasCowboys.com. Kyle Orton will start Sunday's game against the Eagles that will decide the NFC East.
Insight: Adam Schefter reported earlier that Romo was out for the season due to a back injury, but the Cowboys wouldn't rule him out until they put him through treatment in an attempt to have him ready for Week 17. "We spent the week exhausting all options in regards to Tony's situation -- treatment, rehab, all the different things, consulted a lot of different people on this, coach Jason Garrett said. "We just felt like as we discussed it, as yesterday wore on, that this was the best decision for him and for our organization moving forward."
Dez Bryant, WR12/26/2013 6:04:00 PM
Description: Don't worry, fantasy owners. Dez Bryant is going to play on Sunday. SOURCE: Calvin Watkins, ESPN Dallas
Insight: Even after re-injuring his back yesterday, the Cowboys receiver said there's "no doubt" he'll be active for Week 17. Bryant caught eight passes for 110 yards when he played the Eagles earlier this season. Of course, that was with Tony Romo under center. Romo is questionable for Sunday's game with a back injury.
Sean Lee, LB12/26/2013 10:29:00 AM
Description: Cowboys middle linebacker Sean Lee won't play in Sunday's regular season finale against the Eagles.
Insight: Lee has been diagnosed with ligament damage in his neck. Its a huge blow for the Dallas defense.
Dez Bryant, WR12/26/2013 10:28:00 AM
Description: Dallas wideout Dez Bryant apparently tweaked his back in Wednesday's practice according to an ESPN report.
Insight: Bryant has been battling back issues, so its worth watching, though it doesn't appear to be serious.
Jon Kitna, QB12/24/2013 7:29:00 PM
Description: The Cowboys are expected to sign Jon Kitna to backup Tony Romo and Kyle Orton, according to beat writer Clarence Hill.
Insight: Kitna hasn't played a game since 2011, but was with the Cowboys from 2009-11. He'll be 41-years-old and Dallas has to hope they never actually need him to throw a pass.
Tony Romo, QB12/23/2013 5:38:00 PM
Description: Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has a herniated disc in his back and will require surgery, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
Insight: Adam Schefter reported earlier that Romo is out for the season due to a back injury, and now we know exactly what is wrong with him. Kyle Orton will start against the Eagles in Week 17 with the NFC East title on the line.
Tony Romo, QB12/23/2013 4:28:00 PM
Description: Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will miss the remainder of the 2013 campaign with a back injury. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: The Cowboys' playoff chances just took a major hit. Now Kyle Orton, who has only appeared in two games this season, will be asked to lead the offense in a do-or-die game Sunday against the Eagles. Romo will finish the year with 31 TD to go with ten interceptions.
Tony Romo, QB12/23/2013 11:32:00 AM
Description: Cowboys QB Tony Romo is headed for an MRI on his injured back. SOURCE: Dallas Morning News
Insight: The MRI appears to be precautionary as Romo has no intention of missing next week's do-or-die game against Philadelphia. Romo threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's come-from-behind win over Washington.
DeMarco Murray, RBHot12/22/2013 5:35:00 PM
Description: Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray had 111 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns Sunday at Washington.
Insight: Murray came into the fantasy playoffs with three juicy matchups and he took advantage of them with 376 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown in that span.
Dez Bryant, WR12/22/2013 1:36:00 PM
Description: Dallas wideout Dez Bryant went to the sidelines with 8:24 remaining in the first quarter and medical trainers working on his right shoulder.
Insight: Bryant has been battling back issues, but this wasn't involved here. The talented wideout returned for the start of the next series.
Dez Bryant, WR12/22/2013 1:27:00 PM
Description: Dallas wideout Dez Bryant went to the sidelines with 8:24 remaining in the first quarter and medical trainers working on his right shoulder.
Insight: Bryant has been battling back issues, but this wasn't involved here. We await word of whether he will return.
Terrance Williams, WR12/22/2013 12:38:00 PM
Description: Cowboys receiver Terrance Williams (hamstring) is active Sunday against the Redskins.
Insight: Williams was limping Monday and barely practiced this week. He had a nice run when Miles Austin was injured, grabbing touchdowns in Weeks 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10, but he's picked up just eight fantasy points over the last four games.
Terrance Williams, WR12/19/2013 9:14:00 PM
Description: Cowboys receiver Terrance Williams (hamstring) is going to try to practice Friday, according to Bryan Broaddus of dallascowboys.com.
Insight: Williams was limping Monday and did not practice Wednesday or Thursday. He had a nice run when Miles Austin was injured, grabbing touchdowns in Weeks 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10, but he's picked up just eight fantasy points over the last four games.
Terrance Williams, WR12/18/2013 5:28:00 PM
Description: Cowboys receiver Terrance Williams (hamstring) is not expected to play in Week 16, according to Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News.
Insight: Williams was limping Monday and did not practice Wednesday. He had a nice run when Miles Austin was injured, grabbing touchdowns in Weeks 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10, but he's picked up just eight fantasy points over the last four games.
Sean Lee, LB12/17/2013 8:20:00 PM
Description: The Cowboys fear that middle linebacker Sean Lee may be lost for the season. SOURCE: Nick Eatman, DallasCowboys.com
Insight: Neck injuries should always be taken seriously, so it might be in Lee's best long-term interest to sit out these last two games (or more if Dallas makes the postseason). The Cowboys' defense was disastrous without him in Week 15 and could very well suffer the same fate Sunday against Washington.
Sean Lee, LB12/13/2013 2:22:00 PM
Description: Dallas linebacker Sean Lee was hoping to play in Week 15, but he's already been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Packers.
Insight: Lee is dealing with a sprained neck after being laid out by Bears receiver Brandon Marshall in Week 14. He's missed four of the Cowboys' last five games.
Sean Lee, LB12/10/2013 8:23:00 PM
Description: Dallas linebacker Sean Lee expects to play Sunday versus the Packers despite hurting his neck in Monday night's loss to Chicago. SOURCE: Calvin Watkins, ESPN Dallas
Insight: Lee got laid out by Bears receiver Brandon Marshall and had to leave in the third quarter. Monday was Lee's first game back from a hamstring injury.
Terence Newman, CB12/9/2013 2:08:00 PM
Description: Bengals cornerback Terence Newman will miss 1-3 weeks with an MCL sprain, according to Chris Mortensen.
Insight: Cincinnati is already short-handed with the loss of Leon Hall in late October. Expect Dre Kirkpatrick to step into the starting lineup.
Sean Lee, LB12/3/2013 7:05:00 PM
Description: Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee expects to return Monday against Chicago. SOURCE: Calvin Watkins, ESPN Dallas
Insight: Lee missed three weeks with a strained hamstring. His return would be a big boost to a defense that is 22nd in points allowed (25.2 ppg).
Lance Dunbar, RB11/29/2013 5:15:00 PM
Description: Cowboys running back Lance Dunbar is indeed done for the season.
Insight: According to Rainer Sabin of the Dallas Morning News, Dunbar has a posterior corner in his left knee. Dunbar acknowledged that he'll need surgery in the near future. His absence should give DeMarco Murray a slight boost in the fantasy rankings.
Lance Dunbar, RB11/29/2013 3:31:00 PM
Description: Dallas halfback Lance Dunbar could be headed for season-ending knee surgery. SOURCE: Ed Werder, ESPN
Insight: Dunbar left Thursday's game in the fourth quarter with what the team is calling a "hyperextension" of his left knee. The Cowboys have used Dunbar as a change of pace back throughout the season. DeMarco Murray will see a bigger workload if Dunbar is out for the year.
Lance Dunbar, RB11/29/2013 9:45:00 AM
Description: Cowboys second-year running back Lance Dunbar will have an MRI on Friday to evaluate a hyperextended left knee suffered in Thursday's game with Oakland
Insight: Dunbar was running and catching the ball very well, accumulating 94 yards on 13 touches.
Sean Lee, LB11/27/2013 10:14:00 AM
Description: Dallas star linebacker Sean Lee isn't likely to play Thursday in a Thanksgiving matchup with Oakland. SOURCE: Dallas Morning News
Insight: He missed Sunday's game with a strained left hamstring. After Thursday, the Cowboys don't play again until Monday, December 9th. Lee should be back by then.
Miles Austin, WR11/19/2013 9:31:00 PM
Description: According to Bryan Broaddus of dallascowboys.com, Miles Austin (hamstring) will take over as the No. 2 receiver immediately when he returns to action Sunday against the Giants.
Insight: The team has held Austin out since Oct. 20 to make sure his hamstring is 100 percent. He hasn't caught a pass since Week 3, but with Terrance Williams struggling the team will get the more polished Austin involved. He's worth an add as a potential WR3, and Williams is a hold given Austin's injury history.
Miles Austin, WR11/19/2013 5:18:00 PM
Description: Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says receiver Miles Austin (hamstring) is ready to play and could have played two weeks ago, according to Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com.
Insight: The team has held Austin out since Oct. 20 to make sure he's 100 percent. He hasn't caught a pass since Week 3 and isn't a fantasy option, but his return will put a damper on the value of Terrance Williams.
Sean Lee, LB11/11/2013 2:29:00 PM
Description: Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee will miss 3-4 weeks with a hamstring injury suffered Sunday night against New Orleans.
Insight: Lee is the Cowboys best linebacker and his absence will certainly be felt. They are also struggling in the secondary and on the defensive line, so opposing offenses should be able to take additional liberties with the decimated Dallas defense.
Miles Austin, WR11/10/2013 7:55:00 PM
Description: Cowboys receiver Miles Austin (hamstring) is not active for Sunday's game versus New Orleans.
Insight: Hamstring injuries have held Austin back all season and the team has shut him down to try to get him 100 percent healthy. There's no need to stash him, as he'll be behind Terrance Williams on the depth chart if he can ever return to action.
DeMarcus Ware, DE11/10/2013 7:54:00 PM
Description: Dallas star defensive end DeMarcus Ware is active for Sunday night's game with New Orleans.
Insight: Ware ranks 17th on the all-time sacks list with 115 in 134 career regular season games. Given the injuries to the Cowboys' secondary, they'll need a strong pass rush to have any chance of containing Drew Brees.
Dez Bryant, WR11/10/2013 12:04:00 PM
Description: Dallas wideout Dez Bryant received an epidural injection this week and is expected to play Sunday night against the Saints. SOURCE: Ed Werder, ESPN
Insight: Bryant has been battling back issues. The 25-year-old has been a little inconsistent this year but at the end of the day, he's still one of the better fantasy options at wide receiver.
Dez Bryant, WR11/8/2013 4:57:00 PM
Description: Cowboys wideout Dez Bryant does not have a disk issue in his back, according to Cowboys VP Stephen Jones. SOURCE: ESPN Dallas.
Insight: Jones said the injury is "muscle related." Bryant missed some practice time this week but he's probable for Sunday's game against New Orleans.
Dez Bryant, WR11/7/2013 7:09:00 PM
Description: Cowboys wideout Dez Bryant was limited in practice Thursday, according to ESPN Dallas.
Insight: The good news is that he was back on the field after sitting out Wednesday's practice due to back stiffness. Bryant is very likely to play Sunday against the Saints.
Miles Austin, WR11/7/2013 4:59:00 PM
Description: Cowboys receiver Miles Austin (hamstring) is not expected to play Sunday, according to Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com.
Insight: Hamstring injuries have held Austin back all season and the team has shut him down to try to get him 100 percent healthy. There's no need to stash him, as he'll be behind Terrance Williams on the depth chart if he can ever return to action.
Dez Bryant, WR11/6/2013 2:41:00 PM
Description: Cowboys wideout Dez Bryant wasn't at practice on Wednesday. SOURCE: Calvin Watkins, ESPN Dallas
Insight: He sat out with back tightness. By the looks of it, Wednesday was just a maintenance day for Bryant. Though Dallas will probably list him on the injury report as questionable, Dez is still on track to start Sunday night's game against the Saints.
DeMarcus Ware, DE11/5/2013 9:04:00 PM
Description: Dallas defensive end DeMarcus Ware appears to be over the quad issue that has kept him out for the past few weeks.
Insight: The plan is for him to return Sunday night against the Saints. Ware ranks 17th on the all-time sacks list with 115 in 134 career regular season games.
Jason Witten, TE11/3/2013 5:42:00 PM
Description: Cowboys tight end Jason Witten tied a season-high with 10 targets Sunday against the Vikings.
Insight: Witten recorded his second 100-yard game and fourth TD of the year. The tight end is on pace for 33 fewer targets than last season.
DeMarco Murray, RB11/3/2013 5:40:00 PM
Description: In his return from a two-game absence, running back DeMarco Murray led the Cowboys in carries. However, he had just four.
Insight: Murray rushed for 31 yards, with 27 coming on one carry. He added six catches, but for just 19 yards. Dallas opted to throw the football 51 times against the depleted Vikings secondary. Murray has just two games with more than 14 carries this season.
DeMarco Murray, RB11/3/2013 10:12:00 AM
Description: Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray is expected to start Sunday against the Vikings after missing two games due to a knee sprain. SOURCE: Ed Werder, ESPN
Insight: Murray had 592 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns in six games prior to his injury and should be started as a RB2 in all leagues this week.
Tony Romo, QB11/2/2013 10:59:00 AM
Description: The Vikings will be without three starting defensive backs, including both safeties, this Sunday against Dallas.
Insight: The Vikings have allowed the fourth most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks, so you were probably starting Tony Romo anyway this week, but this is an added incentive for those in shallow leagues. Be sure to start Dez Bryant (obviously), Terrance Williams and Jason Witten as well.
DeMarcus Ware, DE11/1/2013 7:34:00 PM
Description: Cowboys star defensive end DeMarcus Ware isn't likely to suit up Sunday versus Minnesota. SOURCE: Ed Werder, ESPN
Insight: He's still battling a quad strain. At this point, the Cowboys may wait and save Ware until after their bye in Week 11.
Dez Bryant, WR10/27/2013 6:25:00 PM
Description: Dallas receiver Dez Bryant reeled in two touchdown catches Sunday against the Lions.
Insight: Most of his yardage came on a 50-yard strike from Tony Romo with 6:45 left in the fourth quarter. He's just one behind Wes Welker for the league-lead in touchdowns (eight). Sunday was Bryant's fourth 20-point fantasy game of the season (standard scoring).
Miles Austin, WR10/27/2013 11:53:00 AM
Description: Dallas receiver Miles Austin won't play Sunday against the Lions.
Insight: Hamstring injuries have held Austin back all season. Terrance Williams has done well as the Cowboys' No. 2 wideout and even if Austin can get healthy, he's not likely to get his job back from Williams. Austin has been off the fantasy radar for a while now.
DeMarco Murray, RB10/27/2013 11:47:00 AM
Description: Dallas running back DeMarco Murray is officially inactive for Sunday's contest against Detroit. SOURCE: Stacey Dales, NFL Network
Insight: Murray suffered a setback to his sprained knee at Friday's practice and is now forced to watch Sunday's matchup from the sidelines. Fantasy owners who picked up Joseph Randle off waivers can roll him out for another week.
DeMarco Murray, RB10/27/2013 10:14:00 AM
Description: We're hearing conflicting reports on Cowboys halfback DeMarco Murray's availability for Sunday's game against the Lions.
Insight: Bryan Broaddus of Cowboys.com is telling us that Murray (sprained knee) is doubtful while ESPN's Sal Palantonio just said he's probable. We won't know for sure what Murray's status is until the inactive lists come out at 11:30.
Terrance Williams, WRHot10/25/2013 10:22:00 AM
Description: Cowboys No. 3 receiver Terrance Williams should be a viable fantasy option again in Week 8 as it appears Miles Austin will once again miss the action.
Insight: The rookie has 19 catches on 21 targets for 320 yards and three touchdowns over his last four games, including a TD in each of the last three contests.
Miles Austin, WR10/25/2013 10:19:00 AM
Description: Cowboys receiver Miles Austin (hamstring) should not be counted on in Week 8.
Insight: Although still listed as questionable, he probably won't play. Austin has zero catches since Week 3 and wideout Terrance Williams has ably filled in with 19 receptions for 320 yards and 3 TDs in the last four games.
DeMarco Murray, RB10/24/2013 11:24:00 AM
Description: Dallas running back DeMarco Murray returned to practice in a limited capacity on Wednesday and has been upgraded to probable for Sunday versus Detroit.
Insight: He missed Sunday's win against Philadelphia because of a sprained knee. If that's the case, rookie Joseph Randle will no longer be a fantasy consideration, but don't cut Randle yet in case Murray has a setback. Murray missed nine of 32 games (28 percent) over the first two years of his career.
Miles Austin, WR10/23/2013 6:16:00 PM
Description: Cowboys receiver Miles Austin (hamstring) was limited in Wednesday's practice, two days after Jason Garrett said the team might "shut down" the receiver.
Insight: Austin suffered a hamstring injury in Week 3 and hasn't caught a pass since then despite playing the last two weeks. Terrance Williams has stepped up as Tony Romo's No. 2 receiver and Cole Beasley is even a better option than Austin in Week 8 after catching 10 passes on 13 targets the last two games.
Dez Bryant, WR10/23/2013 6:05:00 PM
Description: Cowboys wideout Dez Bryant (hamstring, wrist) was limited in Wednesday's practice but he's fully expected to play Sunday against the Lions.
Insight: If Bryant wants to be regarded as the No. 1 receiver in the NFL, turning in a dominating performance Sunday against against Detroit with Calvin Johnson on the other sideline is a good way to do it. Bryant has 42 receptions for 569 yards and six touchdowns in seven games this season, but he hasn't caught a TD in the last two games.
DeMarco Murray, RB10/23/2013 3:42:00 PM
Description: Dallas halfback DeMarco Murray returned to practice in a limited capacity on Wednesday. SOURCE: Todd Archer, ESPN Dallas
Insight: He missed Sunday's win over Philadelphia because of a sprained knee. There's a good chance we see Murray back in the lineup this week against Detroit. If that's the case, rookie Joseph Randle will no longer be a fantasy consideration.
Miles Austin, WR10/21/2013 4:11:00 PM
Description: Cowboys receiver Miles Austin's play shows he's not over his hamstring injury.
Insight: Austin has been replaced by rookie Terrance Williams who has a touchdown catch in each of the last three games. The pecking order has changed in Big D with Dez Bryant followed by Williams and Austin.
Joseph Randle, RB10/20/2013 5:58:00 PM
Description: Cowboys rookie running back Joseph Randle saw 19 of Dallas' 26 rushing attempts Sunday at Philadelphia and had 65 rushing yards. He also caught three passes for 28 yards.
Insight: The short touchdown went to Phillip Tanner, however. Randle should continue to start while DeMarco Murray is out with a knee injury unless the Cowboys trade for a running back.
Terrance Williams, WRHot10/20/2013 5:53:00 PM
Description: Cowboys receiver Terrance Williams caught a touchdown for the third straight game Sunday at Philadelphia.
Insight: For the second straight game, Williams had Tony Romo's lone touchdown toss. The rookie had six catches for 71 yards Sunday, giving him 19 catches on 21 targets for 320 yards and three touchdowns over his last four games. He has replaced Miles Austin as Dallas' No. 2 receiver.
DeMarco Murray, RB10/20/2013 1:25:00 PM
Description: FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reports that Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray (knee) has a Grade 2 sprain of his MCL.
Insight: Murray was inactive for Week 7 at Philadelphia and we wouldn't count on him being available in Week 8 given how long he took to return from an injury last season. Joseph Randle will fill in while Murray is out, though reports suggest the Cowboys could also deal for a running back before the trade deadline.
Joseph Randle, RB10/20/2013 12:01:00 PM
Description: Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Joseph Randle will be the team's starting back in Week 7 with DeMarco Murray and Lance Dunbar inactive.
Insight: Randle has yet to do much this season with 17 yards on 11 carries, but the Eagles' defense is vulnerable to both the run and pass.
DeMarcus Ware, DE10/20/2013 11:58:00 AM
Description: Dallas DE DeMarcus Ware is inactive for Week 7 at Philadelphia.
Insight: Great news for the Eagles offense and in particular quarterback Nick Foles. He'll have more time to throw and should be a viable fantasy option.
DeMarco Murray, RB10/20/2013 11:55:00 AM
Description: Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray (knee) is not active for Sunday against Philadelphia.
Insight: It would have been a good matchup too as the Eagles have given up an average of almost 106 yards per game on the ground this season. Instead, the Cowboys will have to rely on rookie Joseph Randle out of the backfield. The 21-year-old was limited to 17 yards on 11 attempts last week versus the Redskins but he did manage to score a touchdown.

Miles Austin, WR10/18/2013 1:28:00 PM
Description: Cowboys receiver Miles Austin (hamstring) fully participated in Wednesday's practice and then was given Thursday and Friday off.
Insight: Austin played last week but had zero catches as the entire Cowboys offense didn't need to do much to beat Washington. He's no better than a bye week replacement these days and that's when he's healthy.
Miles Austin, WR10/16/2013 6:42:00 PM
Description: Cowboys receiver Miles Austin (hamstring) fully participated in Wednesday's practice.
Insight: Austin played Sunday night but had zero catches as the entire Cowboys offense didn't need to do much to beat Washington. He was targeted four times. He has another good matchup in Week 7 against the Eagles but is a desperation WR3.
Jay Ratliff, DT10/16/2013 4:13:00 PM
Description: The Cowboys have released veteran defensive tackle Jay Ratliff. SOURCE: Jason La Canfora, CBS Sports
Insight: Ratliff reportedly failed his physical. The four-time Pro Bowler is still recovering from offseason groin surgery.
DeMarcus Ware, DE10/14/2013 9:48:00 PM
Description: Earlier ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that DeMarcus Ware would miss three or four weeks with a strained quad but now Fox's Jay Glazer is hearing that it may only be one week.
Insight: Technically, he still hasn't been ruled out for next week's game against the Eagles. He's a longshot to play in that one but it looks like Ware will be back in the lineup sooner than we had originally expected.
DeMarcus Ware, DE10/14/2013 4:40:00 PM
Description: Cowboys LB/DE DeMarcus Ware will need 3-to-4 weeks to recover from the quad strain he suffered Sunday against the Redskins. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Dallas' defense just became a lot less threatening. Ware, still one of the premier pass rushers in the NFL, is known for terrorizing opposing quarterbacks. Without him, quarterbacks facing the Cowboys should have a lot more time to get rid of the football.
DeMarco Murray, RB10/14/2013 3:38:00 PM
Description: Dallas running back DeMarco Murray is likely to miss Week 7 with a sprained left MCL, according to John Breech of CBSSports.com
Insight: The injury could end up being a 2-to-3 week problem and even after that, it could be a while before Murray is back to normal. If Murray can't play against the Eagles on Sunday, the Cowboys will be forced to use rookie Joseph Randle out of the backfield.
Miles Austin, WR10/13/2013 11:17:00 AM
Description: Cowboys receiver Miles Austin expects to start Sunday versus Washington. SOURCE: Bryan Broaddus, Cowboys.com
Insight: He's missed the past couple of weeks with a hamstring injury. It's a dream matchup for Austin as Washington's defense has been among the most generous in the NFL this season. Don't be surprised if the two-time Pro Bowler sneaks in a touchdown on Sunday.
Jay Ratliff, DT10/12/2013 9:36:00 PM
Description: The Cowboys expect defensive tackle Jay Ratliff to return as soon as he's eligible to in Week 7. SOURCE: Dallas Morning News
Insight: Ratliff, who is currently on the team's physically unable to perform list, has spent the first six weeks of the season recovering from groin surgery. The 32-year-old recorded 16 tackles during his injury-shortened 2012 campaign.
Miles Austin, WR10/11/2013 11:55:00 AM
Description: Dallas wideout Miles Austin (hamstring) practiced on Friday (his third consecutive day on the practice field) and is likely to play Sunday night against the Redskins, according to Cowboys beat reporter Todd Archer.
Insight: Austin and hamstring injuries are a danger every time he plays. Terrance Williams performed well in Austin's absence, but if he's back it makes it tough to start either receiver who only get targets after Tony Romo has looked toward Dez Bryant and Jason Witten.
Miles Austin, WR10/10/2013 4:27:00 PM
Description: According to Nick Eatman of DallasCowboys.com, Miles Austin (hamstring) practiced Thursday and is likely to play Sunday night against the Redskins.
Insight: If Austin plays it would put a damper on the upside of rookie Terrance Williams, who has flourished in the last two games with Austin out. Both players would be dice-roll flex plays in Week 6 if Austin is active, with Williams holding the edge. If Austin is out, Williams would vault to WR2 status against the Redskins porous defense.
Miles Austin, WR10/9/2013 8:15:00 PM
Description: Dallas wideout Miles Austin returned to practice in a limited capacity on Wednesday. SOURCE: ESPN Dallas
Insight: Austin has sat out the last two weeks with a strained hamstring. If he's able to suit up Sunday against Washington, he could make for an interesting flex play.
Miles Austin, WR10/9/2013 12:10:00 PM
Description: Cowboys receiver Miles Austin (hamstring) is expected to practice Wednesday.
Insight: Austin has to have the most fragile hammy of any football player as he suffers from the problem every season. Even if he plays we don't like his chances of putting up big numbers. We'd rather take a shot with rookie Terrance Williams who has more upside.
Terrance Williams, WR10/6/2013 7:53:00 PM
Description: Dallas wideout Terrance Williams put up 151 yards and a touchdown on four catches Sunday against the Broncos.
Insight: He combined with Dez Bryant for 292 yards and three touchdowns. The 24-year-old rookie out of Baylor has produced 222 yards on 11 catches over the last two games with Miles Austin dealing with a hamstring injury. If Austin is out in Week 6 versus the Redskins, don't hesitate to use Williams as a WR3 in 12-team leagues.
Tony Romo, QBHot10/6/2013 7:48:00 PM
Description: Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo went toe-to-toe with Peyton Manning Sunday in Dallas and threw for 506 yards and five touchdowns in a 50-48 loss.
Insight: Romo was unstoppable for most of the game but his late pick set up a Denver game-winning field goal as time expired. The 33-year-old has thrown for 10 touchdowns and one interception over his last three games.
Miles Austin, WR10/4/2013 2:42:00 PM
Description: Cowboys receiver Miles Austin (hamstring) missed another practice Friday with a hamstring injury.
Insight: Austin has to have the most fragile hammy of any football player as he sufferes from the problem every season. Expect to be without Austin again this week. Rookie Terrance Williams and Dwayne Harris will play opposite Dez Bryant.
Miles Austin, WR10/2/2013 1:52:00 PM
Description: Cowboys receiver Miles Austin (hamstring) missed practice on Wednesday with a hamstring injury.
Insight: Austin has to have the most fragile hammy of any football player as he sufferes from the problem every season. Expect to be without Austin again this week.
Kevin Ogletree, WR10/1/2013 11:53:00 AM
Description: Wideout Kevin Ogletree was cut by the Bucs on Tuesday.
Insight: Ogletree was in on most of the three receiver sets and third on the team with eight receptions for 70 yards, but apparently things are changing in the 0-4 locker room.
Dez Bryant, WR9/29/2013 7:53:00 PM
Description: Cowboys wideout Dez Bryant contributed two touchdowns Sunday in a loss at San Diego.
Insight: Bryant has a tendency to be hit or miss in fantasy but lately he's been a lot more hit than miss. In four contests, he's already logged four touchdowns to go with 282 receiving yards. Bryant's touchdown a week diet seems fairly sustainable given the nature of Dallas' pass-first scheme.
Miles Austin, WR9/27/2013 3:58:00 PM
Description: Cowboys receiver Miles Austin (hamstring) missed another practice on Friday and has been ruled out for Week 4.
Insight: Austin left Sunday's game with a hamstring injury and has to have the most fragile hammy of any football player as he sufferes from the problem avery season. Since he's yet to haul in more than 75 yards worth of passes or a touchdown in any game this season, he probably shouldn't have been in your preliminary lineup anyway.
Miles Austin, WR9/27/2013 1:32:00 PM
Description: Cowboys receiver Miles Austin (hamstring) missed another practice on Friday and his availability for Sunday is in doubt.
Insight: Austin left Sunday's game with a hamstring injury and has to have the most fragile hammy of any football player as he sufferes from the problem avery season. Since he's yet to haul in more than 75 yards worth of passes or a touchdown in any game this season, he should have a seat on your bench in Week 4.
Miles Austin, WR9/26/2013 12:42:00 PM
Description: Cowboys receiver Miles Austin (hamstring) did not practice Thursday.
Insight: Austin left Sunday's game with a hamstring injury and will likely be a game-time call Sunday for Dallas' 4:25 p.m. ET game against the Chargers. Dwayne Harris is dealing with a hip injury, so rookie Terrance Williams, a third-round pick out of Baylor, will likely see a lot of action this week. Williams had five catches on seven targets in the first two games before getting shut out in Week 3 and shouldn't be played in any fantasy leagues.
Anthony Spencer, DE9/24/2013 7:02:00 PM
Description: Cowboys DE Anthony Spencer (knee) will miss the rest of the season.
Insight: Spencer will undergo knee surgery that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones suggested could be microfracture, according to DallasCowboys.com's Nick Eatman.
Miles Austin, WR9/22/2013 7:08:00 PM
Description: Dallas wideout Miles Austin, who tweaked his hamstring in the third quarter Sunday against the Rams and never returned, will be evaluated this week, according to ESPN Dallas.
Insight: Austin has a history of hamstring injuries. "We decided to keep him out of it," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. "We'll just evaluate it over the next couple of days."
Tony Romo, QB9/22/2013 5:55:00 PM
Description: Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo had a productive afternoon Sunday against St. Louis.
Insight: Romo went off for 210 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. Amazingly, his 70.8 percent completion rate was his lowest of the season. The 137.2 QB rating Romo posted on Sunday was his highest since Week 13 of the 2012 season (150.5 rating in a win against the Eagles).
DeMarcus Ware, DE9/22/2013 5:51:00 PM
Description: Dallas defensive end DeMarcus Ware sacked Rams quarterback Sam Bradford twice on Sunday to become the Cowboys' all-time sacks leader.
Insight: His second sack pushed him ahead of Harvey Martin, who set the mark 30 years earlier. Ware (115 career sacks) is 17th on the NFL's all-time sacks list.
DeMarco Murray, RB9/22/2013 5:46:00 PM
Description: Dallas halfback DeMarco Murray steamrolled the Rams for 175 rushing yards and one touchdown Sunday at AT&T Stadium.
Insight: Murray set a career-high in carries with 26. He also added 28 receiving yards to give him over 200 yards for the day. He'll try to replicate the effort next week against the Chargers.
Miles Austin, WR9/22/2013 3:16:00 PM
Description: Dallas wideout Miles Austin suffered a hamstring injury in the third quarter of Sunday's game against St. Louis and is questionable to return.
Insight: The Cowboys have a comfortable lead so there's no need to rush Austin back into action. It's been a quiet afternoon for the 29-year-old. Though quarterback Tony Romo has targeted him five times, Austin has only come away with two catches for 22 yards.
Dez Bryant, WR9/20/2013 4:00:00 PM
Description: Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant was back on the practice field Friday and is expected to play on Sunday.
Insight: Bryant is nicked up with the sore foot from last week and a back that tighened up during last week's game, so time off during the week was expected. he busted loose for nine catches, 141 yards and a score last week versus Kansas City.
Tony Romo, QB9/20/2013 3:57:00 PM
Description: Dallas quarterbackTony Romo was a full participant in Friday's practice.
Insight: He'll likely get another pain injection before the game, but he's going to play. Romo has already thrown 91 passes in the first two games.
Dez Bryant, WRHot9/18/2013 1:18:00 PM
Description: Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant did not practice on Wednesday, according to Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News.
Insight: Bryant is nicked up with the sore foot from last week and a back that tighened up during last week's game, so this time off isn't unexpected. Barring a setback, he'll be ready for St. Louis on Sunday.
Dez Bryant, WRHot9/15/2013 1:45:00 PM
Description: Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant (sprained left foot) has shown no ill-effects from the injury he suffered in the fourth quarter against the Giants.
Insight: Bryant was ready to play from the opening whistle, grabbing five balls in the first quarter for 100 yards and a touchdown. Let's see what he does over the next 45 minutes.
Lance Dunbar, RB9/15/2013 12:20:00 PM
Description: Cowboys second-year running back Lance Dunbar (sprained left foot) was ready for opening night, but should be the backup to DeMarco Murray in Week 2.
Insight: Dunbar beat out fifth-round pick Joseph Randle for the backup job, but Phillip Tanner got the job in Week 1 when Dunbar wasn't ready to go.
Joseph Randle, RB9/15/2013 12:17:00 PM
Description: Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Joseph Randle is inactive for Week 2 versus Kansas City.
Insight: Randle was supposed to end up being the handcuff for injury-prone DeMarco Murray, but didn't get on the field for a single snap in Week 1. Phillip Tanner did most of the work when Murray was tired, but Lance Dunbar returns this week to make things more confusing.
Dez Bryant, WR9/12/2013 12:29:00 PM
Description: Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant (sprained left foot) was listed as a full participant in Wednesday's practice but coach Jason Garrett confirmed that Bryant took fewer reps than usual to protect his foot, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com.
Insight: Bryant suffered the foot injury in the fourth quarter Sunday night against the Giants but he appears to be on track to start against the Chiefs in Week 2. New York made it a point to blanket Bryant in Week 1 and he had just four catches for 22 yards on eight targets. Fantasy owners don't need to panic.
Dez Bryant, WR9/11/2013 2:59:00 PM
Description: Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant (sprained left foot) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
Insight: Just getting on the field on Wednesday means he's better than we expected. He suffered the injury in the fourth quarter Sunday night against New York. He's expected to play Sunday and hopefully will find more room to run than in Week 1.
DeMarco Murray, RB9/10/2013 9:25:00 PM
Description: Cowboys coach Jason Garrett says he'd like his team to have a more balanced approach after running 51 pass plays and 21 running plays despite never trailing Sunday night against the Giants. SOURCE: ESPN.com
Insight: DeMarco Murray saw a good workload against New York, getting 20 carries and eight catches. He ran for 86 yards and added 39 receiving. What would help Murray's value the most is more carries inside the 10-yard line. He has just six career touchdowns on 345 carries. However, with big targets like Dez Bryant, Jason Witten and Miles Austin, this team has little reason to run the football near the goal line.
Dez Bryant, WR9/9/2013 4:21:00 PM
Description: Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant has been diagnosed with a sprained left foot. X-rays were negative. He suffered the injury in the fourth quarter Sunday night against New York.
Insight: The Giants double covered Bryant all night Sunday and he finished with just four catches for 22 yards while Miles Austin and Jason Witten had 18 combined catches. Bryant played much better in the second half of 2012 (50 receptions, 879 yards, 10 touchdowns) and much is expected of him this season. The receiver said he expects to play Week 2 against the Chiefs.
Tony Romo, QB9/9/2013 2:02:00 PM
Description: X-rays on Tony Romo's ribs came back negative and he should be fine to make his next start Sunday against the Chiefs.
Insight: This injury seems pretty minor and we wouldn't worry about it limiting Romo next week at Kansas City. He finished with 263 passing yards Sunday in a win against the Giants.
Tony Romo, QB9/9/2013 9:20:00 AM
Description: Cowboys QB Tony Romo took a shot to the ribs in the second quarter last night, but missed just one snap.
Insight: Romo finished the night 36-of-49 for 263 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT. He had trouble finding Dez Bryant all night due to the double-team, but did just enough for his team to pull out the victory.
Lance Dunbar, RB9/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
Description: Cowboys second-year running back Lance Dunbar (sprained left foot) will not be ready for opening night.
Insight: Dunbar beat out fifth-round pick Joseph Randle for the backup job, but Randle and Phillip Tanner will handle that role Sunday against the Giants.
Lance Dunbar, RB8/19/2013 2:03:00 PM
Description: Cowboys second-year running back Lance Dunbar will miss 3-4 weeks with a sprained left foot.
Insight: Dunbar had run past 2013 fifth-rounder Joseph Randle in the battle to be oft-injured DeMarco Murray's backup/handcuff, but now that is in question for the first few weeks of the season.
Kevin Ogletree, WR8/9/2013 1:52:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay wideout Kevin Ogletree caught five balls for 65 yards which should help solidify his role as the No.3 receiver behind Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams
Insight: Ogletree was in the three receiver sets, but the Bucs don't use that formation much. Still, if either of the starters goes down, Ogletree is the guy to have ahead of Tiquan Underwood or Chris Owusu.
Terrance Williams, WR8/3/2013 8:05:00 PM
Description: Dallas wideout Terrance Williams will miss Sunday's game and most likely next Friday's game with a concussion.
Insight: Williams, a third-round selection from Baylor, is expected to be the Cowboys' No. 3 receiver taking over the role from Kevin Ogletree.
Tony Romo, QB8/3/2013 12:13:00 PM
Description: Cowboys QB Tony Romo does not expect to play in Sunday's first exhibition game at Canton.
Insight: This should have no effect on his fantasy value. He'll be ready for the regular season. Romo finished third in the NFL last season with a career-high 4,903 yards and has thrown at least 26 touchdown passes over his last five healthy seasons. Fantasy owners would like a reduction in interceptions (19 last season including three games of three or more).
Lance Dunbar, RB7/29/2013 8:07:00 PM
Description: According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Cowboys second-year running back Lance Dunbar has "zoomed past" 2013 fifth-rounder Joseph Randle in the battle to be DeMarco Murray's backup.
Insight: Phillip Tanner also has been more consistent than Randle. Dunbar appears to be the handcuff to target for Murray owners. Murray has missed nine games over his first two seasons due to injuries.
