For The Last 15 Days

Andrelton Simmons, SS, ATL9/18/2014 1:03:00 AM
Description: Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons left Wednesday's game with an ankle injury.
Insight: The defensive ace is a guy you would like on your real team, but not your fantasy team with his .244 batting average and .621 OPS.
Ian Desmond, SS, WAS9/17/2014 3:55:00 PM
Description: Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond is not in the starting lineup after they clinched the East Division Tuesday night.

Hanley Ramirez, SS, LOS9/17/2014 1:57:00 PM
Description: Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez (elbow) will miss a second straight start on Wednesday.
Insight: He was able to pinch-hit on Tuesday, and has a solid chance to be ready for the weekend series in Chicago. A strained right elbow is what is causing Ramirez to sit. Miguel Rojas draws the start today against Colorado, but check back in the coming days for more Hanley alerts.
Xander Bogaerts, SS, BOS9/16/2014 11:04:00 PM
Description: Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts was 2-for-4 on Tuesday against the Pirates.

Description: Mets shortstop Wilmer Flores had a career night, batting 3-for-4 with a double, two home runs and six RBI to lead the Mets past the Marlins on Tuesday, 9-1,
Insight: Flores might be in the midst of the best stretch in his career as he is 8-for-15 with three home runs in his last four games. Flores has multiple hits in each of his last three games, going 7-for-11 with two doubles, two home runs, a triple and eight RBI. Incredible considering he only has six home runs and 28 RBI on the year.
Yunel Escobar, SS, TAMHot9/16/2014 10:54:00 AM
Description: Rays shortstop Yunel Escobar has an enticing matchup tonight against Yankees' right-hander Michael Pineda.
Insight: Not only does Escobar have good numbers against Pineda (6-for12 with 2 HR and 5 RBI) during his career, he also has been on a tear lately. Over the past seven days, Escobar is 9-for-22 with three homeruns and six RBI's. If he is not in your lineup, get him in there for tonight's game.
Derek Jeter, SS, NYY9/15/2014 4:25:00 PM
Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is not in Monday's starting lineup.
Insight: Jeter is hitless over the last six games (22 at-bats). The Captain's "Goodbye Tour" is going out on a mediocre note. Fantasy owners should simply remember the future Hall of Fame member is a career .300 hitter over 20 seasons and smile for what he's done for you in the past ... and leave him on your bench.
Alcides Escobar, SS, KAN9/15/2014 3:45:00 PM
Description: Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar is hitless in 13 at-bats against Whites Sox hurler John Danks with five strikeouts.
Insight: Escobar is hitting .275 with 46 RBI, 67 runs and 30 steals on the year, but is an extremely unfavorable matchup and should be avoided. Update: Escobar is in the starting lineup.
Alexei Ramirez, SS, CWS9/15/2014 9:50:00 AM
Description: White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez is a career .412 hitter (21-for-51) with a pair of homers and a 1.033 OPS versus Royals right-hander James Shields.
Insight: Ramirez can't find his swing this month, batting just .122 in 41 at-bats and may not be ready to take advantage of the matchup. He is also hitting .273 with 15 HR, 67 RBI and 76 runs.

Description: Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond went 3-for-4 with three RBI and stole two bases to join the 20/20 club for the third straight season.
Insight: Desmond singled to drive in Anthony Rendon and Jayson Werth in the fifth and doubled to score Werth again in the eighth. His steal in the fourth inning gave him 20 on the season. That put him in the 20/20 club for the third time. He has also set a new career-high and leads all shortstops with 86 RBI this season.
Alexei Ramirez, SS, CWS9/13/2014 6:55:00 PM
Description: White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs to lead the White Sox over the Twins, 5-1, on Saturday.

Description: Pirates shortstop Jordy Mercer went 3-for-5 with three RBI in Friday night's victory over the Cubs, 7-3.
Insight: Mercer hit a single in the fourth to score Travis Snider and his single in the sixth scored Chris Stewart and Josh Harrison. Mercer and Harrison, the top two hitters in Friday's lineup, combined to go 6-for-9 with two runs and three RBI.
J.J. Hardy, SS, BAL9/12/2014 10:06:00 AM
Description: Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy (back spasms) hasn't played since Sept. 5 and is questionable for Friday's doubleheader against the NY Yankees.
Insight: Hardy's MRI showed no structural damage, but isn't likely to be better in time for Friday afternoon's action. Ryan Flaherty owns a modest four-game hitting streak as his replacement, but that's only raised his average to .219 and he has little fantasy value.
Jed Lowrie, SS, OAK9/11/2014 4:42:00 PM
Description: Athletics shortstop Jed Lowrie went 2-for-3 on Thursday in the loss against the White Sox.
Insight: Lowrie has extended his hitting streak to eight games, going 12-for-30 (.400) over that stretch. He is batting .249 with 36 extra-base hits and 45 RBI this year.
Mike Aviles, SS, CLE9/11/2014 12:02:00 PM
Description: Indians utility man Mike Aviles (concussion) is available on Thursday according to MLB.com.

Hanley Ramirez, SS, LOS9/10/2014 10:23:00 AM
Description: Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez is a career 3-for-21 (.143) against padres starter Ian Kennedy.
Insight: Ramirez has hit better of late, batting .368 over his last five games, but we don't like this matchup. This isn't the same hitter who dominated last season. He's batting just .267 with 13 HR and 65 RBI. Good, but not great.
Alcides Escobar, SS, KAN9/10/2014 10:04:00 AM
Description: Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar has been solid this season, but must be avoided Wednesday against Tigers starter Rick Porcello.
Insight: Escobar is hitting .276 with 44 RBI, 65 runs and 28 steals on the year, but against Porcello has a career batting average of .038 (1-for-26).
Xander Bogaerts, SS, BOS9/9/2014 11:04:00 PM

Jose Ramirez, SS, CLE9/9/2014 10:41:00 PM
Description: Indians shortstop Jose Ramirez recorded three hits, including a double, in five at-bats against the Twins on Tuesday.

Description: Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond left Tuesday's game against the Braves with an injury according to Adam Kilgord of the Washington Post.

Description: Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins pulled a hamstring and is expected to be out 7-10 days.

J.J. Hardy, SS, BAL9/9/2014 10:06:00 AM
Description: Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy (back) has missed three straight games and is headed back to Baltimore for more tests.
Insight: Hardy is likely to miss the entire Boston series, but might return by the weekend. Ryan Flaherty continues to fill in at shortstop, but has little to no fantasy value.
J.J. Hardy, SS, BAL9/8/2014 4:06:00 PM
Description: Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy (back) is out of the Orioles lineup for the third straight game.
Insight: Hardy is still considered day-to-day. Ryan Flaherty continues to fill in at shortstop.

Jhonny Peralta, SS, STL9/7/2014 7:14:00 PM
Description: Cardinals shortstop Jhonny Peralta went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and two runs as St. Louis defeated Milwaukee, 9-1.
Insight: Peralta hit the homer off Brewer reliever Alfredo Figaro in the ninth inning for his third hit. The home run was Peralta's 20th of the season, which means it is the fifth time in Peralta's career that he reached the 20-homer plateau. He also has 65 RBI and .268/.342/.459 stat line.
Xander Bogaerts, SS, BOS9/7/2014 6:36:00 PM
Description: Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts was 2-for-4 with a RBI on Sunday against the Blue Jays.
Insight: Bogaerts has been feast or famine lately. In his last 10 games, he has hits in five of them but in four of those five games, he has two hits or more. He is batting .333 with four doubles, a home run and five RBI in that stretch.
Derek Jeter, SS, NYY9/7/2014 6:25:00 PM
Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter went 1-for-3 in his farewell day at Yankee Stadium on Sunday against the Royals.
Insight: Jeter hit a single. Even though we all love Derek Jeter (the New York Daily News tells us so every day), it is nice to see him go out this year while he is still somewhat on top of his game. He is a shell of himself, but he is hitting .260, which is the fourth highest in the Yankee lineup, with 19 extra-base hits and 40 RBI. The Captain's "Goodbye Tour" is going out on a mediocre note. He's batting .261 with three homers, 39 RBI and 41 runs scored. Fantasy owners should simply remember the future Hall of Fame member is a career .310 hitter with an .818 OPS over 20 seasons and smile for what he's done for you in the past ... and leave him on your bench.
Ian Desmond, SS, WAS9/7/2014 11:07:00 AM
Description: Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond is hitting .191 (9-for-47) with one home run and 11 strikeouts in his career against Cole Hamels.
Insight: Desmond has been fabulous this season, leading shortstops with 22 home runs and 81 RBI, but for some reason he does not see the ball well against Hamels. If you can, start a different shortstop on Sunday.
Brad Miller, SS, SEA9/7/2014 10:00:00 AM
Description: Mariners shortstop Brad Miller went 4-for-4 with a double and stole a base against the Rangers on Saturday.
Insight: Miller's stats will not impress anyone (.215, 10 home runs, 33 RBI) , but he has been hitting better over the last couple weeks. Since Aug. 31, he has gone 9-for-18, and Miller hit a respectable .273 in August. Miller has only played in 107 games though so the bigger question might be how much playing time he gets these last three weeks.
Jordy Mercer, SS, PITHot9/6/2014 9:30:00 PM
Description: Pirates shortstop Jordy Mercer went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI as the Pirates defeated the Cubs, 5-0, on Saturday.

Jed Lowrie, SS, OAK9/6/2014 7:09:00 PM
Description: Athletics shortstop Jed Lowrie went 2-for-4 with the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the ninth to lift Oakland past Houston, 4-3.
Insight: Lowrie has had his struggles this season, but it must have felt good for him and the A's to overcome a two-run deficit in the ninth to comeback and win. Lowrie is batting .242 with 35 extra-base hits, 43 RBI and 54 runs.
J.J. Hardy, SS, BAL9/6/2014 11:55:00 AM
Description: Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy (back) is not in the Orioles starting lineup for Saturday's game with Tampa Bay.
Insight: Hardy missed a few games this week with lower back spasms. Hardy is hitting .281 with nine home runs and 52 RBI this year. The home run total is about half of what fantasy owners were expecting after he averaged 25.6 HR over the past three seasons.
Jean Segura, SS, MIL9/6/2014 11:40:00 AM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura is a career .538 hitter (7-for-13) against Cardinals right-hander Lance Lynn.
Insight: The shortstop has hit .235 with four home runs, 16 steals and a .590 OPS, but we like the matchup Saturday after his rapped out three hits and scored a couple of runs Friday night.
Starlin Castro, SS, CHC9/6/2014 10:58:00 AM
Description: Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro's MRI showed a high-ankle sprain and he'll likely miss about four weeks ... a.k.a the remainder of the season.
Insight: Castro rebounded from 2013 to post solid numbers in 2014 - .292, 14 HR, 65 RBI and a .777 OPS, but it will be interesting to see if he's still with the team in 2015 because of all the shortstop talent the Cubs have in their minor league system.
Derek Jeter, SS, NYY9/6/2014 10:45:00 AM
Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is 4-for-9 with a pair of doubles and a 1.111 OPS against Royals left-hander Danny Duffy.
Insight: The Captain's "Goodbye Tour" is going out on a mediocre note. He's batting .261 with three homers, 39 RBI and 41 runs scored. Fantasy owners should simply remember the future Hall of Fame member is a career .310 hitter with an .818 OPS over 20 seasons and smile for what he's done for you in the past ... and leave him on your bench.
Derek Jeter, SS, NYY9/5/2014 10:05:00 PM
Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter went 1-for-4 on Friday in the loss against the Royals.
Insight: Jeter registered his hit in the ninth inning. He is hitting .261 with three home runs and 39 RBI this year.
Alexei Ramirez, SS, CWS9/5/2014 8:34:00 PM
Description: White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez left Friday's game in the fifth inning after getting nailed in the left foot by a pitch.
Insight: Ramierz looked like he was in a lot of pain. It is possible that he broke something. Marcus Semien will likely fill in at shortstop while Ramierz is down. Ramierz is hitting .281 with 13 home runs, 30 doubles and 64 RBI.
Zack Cozart, SS, CIN9/5/2014 3:50:00 PM
Description: Reds shortstop Zack Cozart is not in Friday's lineup against the NY Mets.
Insight: Cozart missed time for the birth of a child, but is also dealing with a sore right wrist. After a decent 2013 season, Cozart's number have fallen below a fantasy-worthy level (.228, 3 HR, 35 RBI, 45 runs, 6 SB).
Zack Cozart, SS, CIN9/5/2014 10:21:00 AM
Description: Reds shortstop Zack Cozart is questionable for Friday's game against the NY Mets.
Insight: Cozart missed time for the birth of a child, but is also dealing with a sore right wrist. After a decent 2013 season, Cozart's number have fallen below a fantasy-worthy level (.228, 3 HR, 35 RBI, 45 runs, 6 SB).
Mike Aviles, SS, CLE9/4/2014 5:14:00 PM
Description: Indians utility man Mike Aviles is dealing with concussion symptoms according to MLB.com.
Insight: Aviles left Monday's game after he made a diving catch, feeling light-headed and dizzy. Doctors initially cleared him of concussions, but then his symptoms got worse. He will not go on the 7-day concussion disabled list because the rosters have expanded, but the Indians will follow MLB protocol before allowing him to get back on the field.
J.J. Hardy, SS, BAL9/4/2014 3:32:00 PM
Description: Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy (back) is in the Orioles starting lineup on Thursday night against the Reds.
Insight: Hardy missed two games this week with lower back spasms. He will be batting sixth and starting at shortstop Thursday. Hardy is hitting .280 with nine home runs and 50 RBI this year.
Luis Valbuena, SS, CLE9/3/2014 10:31:00 AM
Description: Cubs third baseman Luis Valbuena is a hot hitter batting .348 with six home runs over his last 16 games.
Insight: Valbuena has done a nice job holding down the hot corner while the Cubs wait for prospect Kris Bryant and has been batting cleanup while Anthony Rizzo has been sidelined with a back injury. Unfortunately, he's 0-for-8 against Wednesday's starter Matt Garza.
Hanley Ramirez, SS, LOS9/3/2014 10:05:00 AM
Description: Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez is a career 10-for-22 (.455) against Nationals starter Jordan Zimmermann.
Insight: Ramirez can't find his swing of late, going 0-for-16 over his last four games. This isn't the same hitter who dominated last season. He's batting just .264 with 13 HR and 60 RBI. Good, but not great.
Jhonny Peralta, SS, STL9/3/2014 9:43:00 AM
Description: Cardinals shortstop Jhonny Peralta is a career .400 with two home runs against Pirates starter Edinson Volquez.
Insight: Peralta has been hot over the past month, batting .333 with four homers and 18 RBI through 29 August games. For the season, the shortstop has a .269 average, 18 home runs, 62 RBI and 53 runs and a favorable matchup.
Jimmy Rollins, SS, PHI9/3/2014 9:40:00 AM
Description: Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins is 1-for-11 (.091) against Braves starter Ervin Santana.
Insight: Rollins is hot having gone 8-for-19 (.421) in the last four games. Rollins is hitting .247 with 17 home runs, 55 RBI, 75 runs and 28 steals this year and is a viable fantasy option despite the low batting average.
