NHL Game Summary - Ottawa at Detroit

    (Saturday, November 23rd)

Final Score: Ottawa 4, Detroit 2

Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Clarke MacArthur scored twice as the Ottawa Senators took a 4-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.

Bobby Ryan posted a goal and an assist while Chris Neil also scored for the Senators, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Robin Lehner made 34 saves in the win.

Pavel Datsyuk and Darren Helm scored for the Red Wings, who had broken a seven-game losing streak, their longest in almost 23 years, with a 4-3 win over Carolina on Thursday.

Jimmy Howard allowed all four goals on 29 shots for Detroit, which had also snapped an eight-game home losing streak, its longest in 27 years, with the win against Carolina.

"I'm always concerned when you don't win," said Detroit head coach Mike Babcock. "You know I thought we did some good things tonight, but we didn't do enough to win and we need to fix that."

Detroit tied the game on a 5-on-3 1:08 into the third period as Datsyuk threw the puck out front from the left side and it went off a Senator and into the net.

Ottawa, though, later found itself with a 5-on-3 after penalties to Helm and Kyle Quincey.

On the advantage, the Senators took a 3-2 lead when Erik Karlsson fired a pass from the slot to the low left side where Ryan one-timed it home for his 11th of the year at 3:51.

The Senators took a 4-2 lead on yet another power-play goal as Patrick Wiercioch blasted a shot on net that saw MacArthur jam home the rebound with 4:02 to play.

"When your special teams can win you hockey games, it's a good sign," said Ottawa forward Jason Spezza said. "It shows that we were organized and focused, and those are all things that are good."

Detroit opened the scoring in the game at 13:23 of the first with a power-play marker as Tomas Tatar fired a shot on goal from the right circle that Helm re- directed into the net.

Ottawa tied the game just over a minute later on MacArthur's first of the game after he grabbed a rebound and put it in from the left side.

The Senators then took a 2-1 lead at 15:44 of the first period thanks to a turnover in the Detroit end that saw Chris Neil get credit for his fourth of the season after his shot bounced in off a Red Wing.

Howard stopped 11 shots in the second period, while Lehner made six saves in the frame to keep it a one-goal game.

    Game Notes

Ottawa plays in Carolina on Sunday ... Detroit plays in Buffalo on Sunday ... Both teams were 2-for-8 on the power play ... Ottawa has won the past two games against Detroit.
