    Kansas City Chiefs

    Position
    QB

    Jersey
    11
    Name  Alex Smith
    Born  5/7/1984
    Height  6-4
    Weight  217
    College  Utah
    12/26/2014 1:36:00 PM
Description: Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith has been ruled out for Week 17 against the Chargers due to a lacerated spleen.
Insight: Smith suffered the injury in Week 16's game against the Steelers, but he was able to finish the game. There is only an outside shot the Chiefs make the playoffs, however, even if they do, Smith will be out six weeks with this injury and probably won't be able to return until the Super Bowl. Chase Daniel, who has a similar skillset to Smith, will start versus the Chargers in a must-win game.

    12/21/2014 6:00:00 PM
Description: Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith threw for 311 yards during Sunday's loss to the Steelers.
Insight: However, he did not throw for a touchdown which obviously hurt owners. Smith is really more of a QB2, as he continues to be a game-manager.

    12/14/2014 7:05:00 PM
Description: Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith threw for two scores as Kansas City avenged its loss from a few weeks ago against the Raiders, 31-13.
Insight: Smith was 18-of-30 for 297 yards in addition to the scores. Despite having virtually no receivers to throw to, Smith is still a low-end QB1.

    12/8/2014 11:28:00 AM
Description: Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith was a decent fantasy options against Arizona, throwing for 293 yards and one touchdown.
Insight: It's hard for Smith to be much better than that given the absence of quality receivers on this KC team. His best bet is to keep feeding Jamaal Charles with a little Travis Kelce mixed in.

    11/21/2014 9:02:00 AM
Description: Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith was a decent fantasy options against Oakland, throwing for 234 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Insight: It's hard for Smith to be much better than that given the absence of quality receivers on this KC team.

    11/16/2014 5:42:00 PM
Description: Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith threw just 16 times in the victory against the Seahawks.
Insight: Smith completed 11 of those 16 passes for 108 yards. He did not throw for a touchdown or an interception. He was the typical "game-manager" Alex Smith.

    11/9/2014 5:25:00 PM
Description: Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith threw for 177 yards and rushed for a score, in Sunday's win against the Bills.
Insight: The rushing touchdown salvaged his fantasy-day, but Smith should be cosidered a QB2 moving forward.

    11/2/2014 6:20:00 PM
Description: Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith was 21-of-31 for 199 yards and two touchdowns against the Jets on Sunday.
Insight: Smith managed the game very well against the Jets, but in that style of offense, Smith has a low ceiling for fantasy. The no turnovers and two touchdowns did help Smith turn in a decent fantasy day.

    10/26/2014 5:52:00 PM
Description: Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith's managed the Chiefs to victory on Sunday.
Insight: He was 24-of-28 for 226, but had no touchdowns, and one fumble lost. Smith did contribute 24 rushing yards, but will be no more than a QB2 moving forward.

    10/20/2014 9:22:00 AM
Description: Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith's Week 7 production is what you have come to expect.
Insight: He threw for 221 yards and one touchdown, didn't turn the ball over and led his team to the win. Look in the dictionary under "game manager."

    10/8/2014 9:24:00 PM
Description: Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith's touchdown pass to rookie De'Anthony Thomas in Week 5 against the 49ers has been changed to a rushing touchdown for Thomas.
Insight: Stat changes normally come a day or two after the game, so this is pretty late in the game. Hopefully this didn't change any results from Week 5 other than the margin of victory. With one less touchdown, Smith has thrown for nine on the season versus four interceptions.

    10/6/2014 10:21:00 AM
Description: Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith struggled against a tough 49ers defense, but still managed respectable numbers considering.
Insight: Considering his best receivers are Dwayne Bowe, Junior Hemingway and Travis Kelce. Smith was 17-of-31 for 175 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.

    9/30/2014 9:22:00 AM
Description: Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith at his best Monday night, throwing for 248 yards and three scores.
Insight: Smith was 20-of-26 on the evening. That's about as good as you are going to get from him because of the Chiefs' weak receiving corps.

    9/22/2014 10:55:00 AM
Description: Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith efficient Sundat throwing just 25 times, but completing 19 for 186 yards and three touchdowns.
Insight: Smith is too inconsistent to be used as anything but a bye week fill-in, but was certainly solid against the Dolphins.

    Cold9/16/2014 1:56:00 PM
Description: Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith threw 42 times Sunday, but produced just 255 yards and zero touchdowns.
Insight: Smith is not blessed with many quality receivers and with Jamaal Charles sidelined he can't even get fantasy points from screen passes that Charles so often took to the house last season. Smith has one touchdown pass and three INTs this season and should be avoided for now.

    8/23/2014 10:20:00 PM
Description: Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith went 14-of-24 for 140 yards and two interceptions in the Chiefs' third preseason game against the Vikings on Saturday.
Insight: Smith has not looked good this preseason and lacks the weapons on offense (besides Jamaal Charles) to put any confidence in fantasy owners. The quarterback is 31-for-51 for 286 yards and three turnovers this month.

    1/8/2014 8:32:00 PM
Description: The Chiefs are hoping to sign QB Alex Smith to a long-term contract later this offseason. SOURCE: National Football Post
Insight: Statistically, this was easily the best season of Smith's career (23 TD, 7 INT, 3,313 passing yards in 15 contests). As it stands now, Smith will be a free agent after the 2014 season.

    1/4/2014 8:57:00 PM
Description: Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith was terrific in Saturday's loss to Indianapolis. He finished the game with four touchdowns, no picks and 378 passing yards.
Insight: He also picked up 57 yards rushing on eight attempts. The 378 yards through the air were a season-high for Smith, whose lone blemish came on a fumble about midway through the third quarter. According to Elias, Smith is the first QB in NFL history to record at least 4 TD with no interceptions in a loss.

    12/29/2013 3:13:00 PM
Description: The Chiefs didn't even bother to activate Alex Smith for Week 17.
Insight: Andy Reid has elected to rest his starters ahead of next week's Wild Card game. Smith will finish his first season in Kansas City with 23 TD, 7 INT and an impressive 89.1 quarterback rating. Backup Chase Daniel will draw the start at quarterback.

    12/25/2013 9:44:00 AM
Description: Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith will likely see very little action in Week 17.
Insight: Smith should give way to Chase Daniel as Kansas City is locked in as the fifth seed and has zero to play for. Andy Reid has always rested his stars in this situation.
