NFL Game Summary - Washington vs. Buffalo

    (Sunday, October 30th)

Final Score: Buffalo 23, Washington 0

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Tight end Scott Chandler caught a pair of touchdown passes and Buffalo's defense recorded nine sacks in a dominating 23-0 victory over the struggling Washington Redskins from Rogers Centre.

It was the Bills' first shutout since December 17, 2006.

"As long as our defense is playing like that we feel like we can beat anybody," Bills running back Fred Jackson said. "They did a tremendous job creating turnovers, getting sacks and pitching a shutout."

Jackson carried the ball 26 times for 120 yards to become the first Bills running back with three consecutive 100-yard games since Thurman Thomas in 1994. Jackson also caught three passes for 74 yards.

Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 21-of-27 passes for 262 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for Buffalo (5-2), which claimed its first win at the Rogers Centre since agreeing to play one regular-season home game in Toronto over a five-year span that began in 2008.

John Beck completed 20-of-33 passes for 208 yards and two interceptions for the Redskins (3-4), who have lost three in a row since beginning the year with a 3-1 mark.

Washington's Mike Shanahan had never been shut out in 267 games as head coach.

"We couldn't get anything going," Shanahan said. "They are a talented team."

Buffalo's second possession of the game resulted in an eight-play, 80-yard scoring drive. David Nelson caught a 26-yard pass on the first play. A pair of Jackson runs put the ball at the Washington 36. Faced with a 3rd-and-2, Brad Smith took the snap and ran for five yards. Chandler then caught a pass along the left sideline and ran into the end zone for a 20-yard score.

The Redskins had a great chance to tie the game after Fitzpatrick fumbled the ball on the second play of the second quarter. The Redskins took over at the Buffalo 31. Washington moved the ball to the 16, but Beck was sacked for a loss of six yards. Another sack led to a 49-yard field goal attempt. The field goal was blocked by the Bills.

A defensive pass interference call set Buffalo up at the 24-yard line of the Redskins. The Bills had to settle for a 37-yard Rian Lindell field goal and a 10-0 lead with 8:45 left in the half.

The Bills were moving down the field on their next possession, but linebacker London Fletcher intercepted Fitzpatrick in the end zone.

After the Redskins punted, the Bills took over at their own 20 with 1:05 left. Despite taking a hard hit to the body from Fletcher, Fitzpatrick completed a 46-yard pass to Jackson. The completed pass put the Bills in Lindell's range, and the Buffalo kicker made a 44-yarder for a 13-0 lead at the break.

Jackson got the second half started with a 43-yard run. Faced with a 3rd-and-4 from the 31, Steve Johnson caught a seven-yard pass. Three plays later, Chandler caught a 15-yard TD pass to make it 20-0.

Washington took over at midfield with 5:15 left. Faced with a 4th-and-4, Beck was sacked.

George Wilson picked off Beck on the first play of the fourth quarter. Lindell went on to miss a 44-yard field goal.

Lindell made a 41-yarder with 3:26 left to make it a 23-0 game.

    Game Notes

The Bills hold an 8-4 advantage in their overall regular season series with the Redskins and have bested Washington six straight times...Chandler's six TD receptions this season is tied for the most by a tight end in team history... The Bills have now scored 20 or more points in each of their first seven games for the third time in team history (1964, 2002)...Buffalo was without nose tackle Kyle Williams (foot), wide receiver Donald Jones (ankle) and offensive tackle Demetrius Bell (shoulder)...Washington was without left tackle Trent Williams (ankle).
