NFL Game Summary - Green Bay at NY Jets

    (Sunday, October 31st)

Final Score: Green Bay 9, NY Jets 0

East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - Mason Crosby connected on three field goals to lift Green Bay to a 9-0 victory over the New York Jets.

Aaron Rodgers finished 15-of-34 for 170 yards for the Packers (5-3), who have won two in a row.

Greg Jennings posted six receptions for 81 yards and Brandon Jackson added 55 yards on 15 carries for Green Bay, which recorded its first road shutout since 1991.

"It's huge. Maybe people outside this room didn't think it could happen, but we knew it could," said Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk of his defense, which held the Jets to 81 yards rushing. "We watched the film coming in and we've sen what they've done throughout the year. It all comes down to stopping the run, especially in their place, in a game like this when it was tight the whole time."

Mark Sanchez threw for 256 yards but was intercepted twice on 16-of-38 passes for the Jets (5-2), who suffered their first defeat since their opening-week loss against Baltimore.

LaDainian Tomlinson was held to 54 yards rushing on 16 carries and Jerricho Cotchery had four catches for 89 yards in New York's first home shutout loss since a 10-0 setback to Chicago in 2006.

Trailing by six with time winding down in the fourth quarter, the Jets moved from their own 19 to the Packers' 37. Sanchez rushed for two yards, then three straight incompletions gave Green Bay possession on its 35 with 4:12 to play.

The Packers failed to mount any offense on that drive, then the Jets failed on another fourth down, this time 4th-and-11 from their own 22. Crosby then drilled a 40-yarder just inside the left upright to give Green Bay a nine- point edge with 27 seconds remaining.

Sanchez hit Cotchery for 20 yards and scrambled for 20 but time ran out.

Helped by a replay reversing the spot of the football and taking away a Jets first down on a fake punt, the Packers reached the red zone on their fourth possession of the game. Rodgers threw high on 3rd-and-goal from the two, then Crosby came on to hit a 20-yarder.

"It would have been a good decision had it been fourth-and-nine, but that's my fault," said Jets punter Steve Weatherford. "I made the decision to try to make the play, but it didn't work out for the team."

Late in the second quarter, Tramon Williams picked off Sanchez and Green Bay was set up on its own 40. Crosby missed a 45-yard attempt, and neither team moved the ball on two ensuing possessions.

Brad Smith's 47-yard kickoff return put the Jets at the Packers' 48 to start the third quarter, but New York failed to move the ball. Green Bay reached the Jets' 40 before a punt, and the home team moved to the Packers' 19 before Nick Folk missed a 37-yard attempt wide right.

Charles Woodson stepped in front of a Sanchez pass with just under 4 1/2 minutes played in the fourth and the Packers got the ball on their own 43. Green Bay only advanced 20 yards on the drive, and Crosby hit a 41-yarder to make it 6-0 with 6:36 remaining.

"I don't know if it was frustration, I just thought it was great defensive play on our part," Woodson said of the Packers' defensive effort. "We made some good hits when we needed to. We got off the field when we needed to, and we stopped the run. I think that was a key for us today, knowing that they love running the football. Today, we did a great job stopping it."

    Game Notes

It was Green Bay's first shutout since a 26-0 win over Detroit on October 18, 2009 and first road shutout since a 27-0 win at Tampa Bay on October 27, 1991...It was the lowest-scoring game featuring the Packers since a 6-3 Green Bay win over Philadelphia on September 17, 2000...For the Jets, it was the lowest-scoring contest since a 6-0 win over Pittsburgh on December 14, 2003.
