NFL Game Summary - Oakland at Denver

    (Sunday, October 24th)

Final Score: Oakland 59, Denver 14

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Third-year running back Darren McFadden had the best day of his professional career, rushing for three touchdowns and catching another score, as the Oakland Raiders put up the most points in franchise history during a 59-14 rout of the Denver Broncos at Invesco Field.

McFadden carried the ball 16 times for a career-high 165 yards for the Raiders (3-4), whose previous high for points in a regular season game was 52. The Redskins hold the NFL record for the most points in a single game, beating the New York Giants, 72-41, on November 27, 1966.

Jason Campbell completed 12-of-20 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns for Oakland, which has won three straight in Denver for the first time since prevailing there in four straight contests from 1974-77.

Marcel Reece, Michael Bush, and Zach Miller also found the end zone for the Raiders, who racked up 508 yards of total offense, compared to 240 for Denver.

"Obviously it's a heck of a win," Raiders head coach Tom Cable said. "It's a great job by our football team, and our coaching staff to get this team prepared and then to go out and execute a plan. The players were fantastic in all three phases."

Kyle Orton connected on 12-of-29 passes for 198 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for the Broncos (2-5), who suffered their largest margin of defeat since losing to Kansas City, 56-10, on October 23, 1966.

Knowshon Moreno was the lone bright spot for Denver, catching two touchdown passes.

Oakland's 59 points tied a record for the most points ever put up against the Broncos, who suffered a 59-7 loss to Kansas City on September 7, 1963.

"Oakland is a good football team...They were 45 points better than us today," Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels said. "I take full responsibility for it. We don't have much time to sulk or you're going to lose again."

The Raiders sent shockwaves through the stadium with their 24-point first quarter. Oakland got the ball to begin the game and put together a nine-play, 80-yard drive. Faced with a 3rd-and-10 from his own 31, Campbell kept the drive alive with a 15-yard run. A few plays later, Campbell hooked up with Miller on a 43-yard score.

Oakland's defense joined the party on Denver's first play. Chris Johnson picked off Orton and went 30 yards the other way for a 14-0 Raiders lead.

The next offensive play proved to be costly for the Broncos again. This time around, Demaryius Thomas rushed for one yard before fumbling the football away. Thomas was ruled down on the field, but Oakland challenged the play. The call on the field was reversed and the visitors took over at the Denver 21.

McFadden then scampered into the end zone from four yards out on the third play to make it 21-0 just 6:02 into the game.

Denver was able to get a first down on its next possession, but the home team was forced to punt. Sebastian Janikowski made a 31-yard field goal to give Oakland a 24-0 margin with 4:20 remaining in the first quarter.

The Broncos' offense continued to sputter, going three-and-out, and Oakland responded with a nine-play drive that bridged the first and second frames. McFadden capped the march with a 19-yard receiving TD to make it 31-0 with 14:36 left until half.

Things just kept getting worse for Denver, which fumbled the ball deep in its own territory. Faced with a 2nd-and-8 from the 16, Orton scrambled to the left. However, he lost control of the football on a hit from Mike Mitchell. Tyvon Branch recovered the ball for Oakland, which got a three-yard rushing TD from McFadden for a 38-0 lead with 7:58 remaining.

The Broncos finally showed signs of life before the half. Moreno capped a nine-play, 68-yard drive with a seven-yard touchdown catch to make it 38-7 at the break.

Denver scored a touchdown on the third play of the third quarter. Moreno's 27- yard TD catch cut the gap to 38-14. Oakland, though, marched right down the field. On 4th-and-goal from the one-yard line, Reece rumbled up the middle for a Raiders touchdown.

McFadden added to his career day with a 57-yard rushing TD with 5:28 to go in the third. Bush's one-yard rushing touchdown late in the third capped the scoring for the game.

    Game Notes

The franchise record for points in a half is 42...Bush carried the ball 15 times for 52 yards...Miller caught three passes for 65 yards...Moreno carried the ball 14 times for 53 yards...McFadden hauled in two passes for 31 yards...Janikowski set a team record with eight extra points...Denver turned the ball over three times...Oakland held the ball for 38:39.
