Seahawks WR Harvin to have hip surgery
Renton, WA (Sports Network) - Percy Harvin's start with the Seahawks may be on hold.
Harvin announced Tuesday that he would require surgery on his hip. Although, Harvin didn't say how long he'd be sidelined, reports indicate he would be sidelined for the bulk of the season.
"Nobody was more anxious and excited about season then....but I will be back strong as ever. I appreciate all the love and prayers, 12th man," Harvin said via Twitter.
"When everything is (going) good sometimes life (throws) (you) a curveball. Sorry to (have) to report that my injury will require surgery."
The Seahawks traded for Harvin in the offseason. He played just nine games last year because of a severely sprained ankle, finishing the campaign with 62 receptions for 677 yards and three scores while adding 96 rushing yards and a touchdown. He also returned a kickoff for a touchdown and was leading the NFL in kick return average at 35.9 yards before his injury.
The 25-year-old Florida product has 280 career catches for 3,302 yards with 20 touchdowns and has also averaged 6.4 yards on 107 carries with four scores -- all with the Vikings. He's also returned five kickoffs for touchdowns in his four-year career.
