NBA Preview from The Sports Network

Tuesday, January 7th (All times Eastern)

    Philadelphia 76ers (12-22) at Cleveland Cavaliers (11-23), 7 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Cleveland Cavaliers probably won't get a look at their newest acquisition, All-Star forward Luol Deng, Tuesday night when they host the Philadelphia 76ers.

In a trade made official in the wee hours of early Tuesday, Deng was traded from the Chicago Bulls to Cleveland in exchange for Andrew Bynum, three future draft picks and the right to swap 2015 first round picks with the Cavs (1-14 protected).

"We are very excited for Luol to join the Cavaliers organization," said GM Chris Grant. "We have worked to acquire and maintain flexibility in order to capitalize on opportunities such as this. Luol reflects all that we are striving for in building our team. He's a tremendous defensive player that can impact the game on both ends of the court with a team first mentality and is a high character leader."

Deng is a free-agent after the season, but he beats the Bynum headache. The center was suspended for conduct detrimental to the team. Deng fills a huge need at the small-forward spot, but he's not expected in uniform on Tuesday.

He will be needed because the Cavs have been in freefall. They've lost two in a row and eight of their last nine. Cleveland hasn't scored more than 87 points in its last four.

On Sunday, the Cavs were valiant, but fell at home to the Indiana Pacers, 82-78.

Cleveland was without guards Kyrie Irving (left knee contusion) and Jarrett Jack (back spasms). Irving has missed the Cavs' last three tilts and both are listed as questionable for Tuesday.

CJ Miles posted a game-high 21 points for Cleveland. Tristan Thompson contributed a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Dion Waiters scored 14 and Matthew Dellavedova netted 11 points in his third career start.

"I thought our guys competed tonight," said Cavs coach Mike Brown. "I thought they tried to play the game the right way (against) a very good Pacer team."

The Sixers had a four-game winning streak snapped and snapped abruptly. The Minnesota Timberwolves visited Philadelphia on Monday night and left with a 126-95 win.

The Sixers returned home from a seven-game road trip which saw them win the last four. They got back early Sunday morning and were back on the court pretty quickly.

The Wolves scored over 30 points in each of the first three quarters and reached the 100-point mark before the third ended. Minny held a 31-point lead with 12 minutes to go.

"I do think that there is a physical side of what you saw tonight, but the mental side of it upsets me far more. I feel that, I see that, far more than I do a fatigue factor," said Philadelphia head coach Brett Brown.

Thaddeus Young netted 20 and James Anderson had 14 points for the 76ers, who had a four-game win streak snapped. Evan Turner and Michael Carter-Williams totaled 13 points apiece, while the latter added seven assists.

The two teams have split both matchups this season with the each team winning on their own floor. The Sixers have won four of their last six at Quicken Loans Arena.
