NBA Preview from The Sports Network

Friday, January 3rd (All times Eastern)

Golden State Warriors (21-13) at Atlanta Hawks (18-14), 7:30 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Golden State Warriors will try to run their winning streak to eight games on Friday night when they continue their season-long, seven-game odyssey against the Atlanta Hawks.

The Warriors haven't lost since a close setback at home against the San Antonio Spurs on Dec. 19.

On Thursday, Steph Curry and David Lee combined for 68 points in the Warriors' 123-114 win over the Miami Heat from AmericanAirlines Arena. Curry poured in a game-high 36 points with 12 assists while Lee totaled 32 points and 14 rebounds as the Warriors improved to 3-0 on their road swing. They went 6-1 on a seven-game road trip last season.

Klay Thompson added 16 points and Harrison Barnes provided 15 points off the bench for Golden State, which has won seven in a row overall.

"Everybody pitched in," said Curry. "We knew it was going to take a complete 48-minute effort from every guy that stepped on the floor. Our energy was pretty high from the start."

The Warriors shot an eye-opening 56.1 percent from the field and an almost equally impressive 51.7 percent from long range. Golden State also won the rebounding battle 40-31.

The Warriors still have to visit Washington, Milwaukee and Brooklyn on this sojourn.

The Hawks, who have won five straight at home, have played well recently with three wins in their last four and six in the past eight.

On Tuesday, the Hawks earned a 92-91 road victory over the Boston Celtics.

Paul Millsap did it all for the Hawks, tallying 34 points and 15 rebounds as Atlanta edged the Boston Celtics, 92-91, from TD Garden.

Millsap has stepped up his play since Al Horford went down for the season with a torn right pectoral. The former Jazz forward has averaged 28 points and 11.7 rebounds as the Hawks improved to 2-1 since the injury.

"He kind of put us on his back," head coach Mike Budenholzer said of Millsap.

Jeff Teague and Kyle Korver added 16 and 14 points, respectively, while the latter hit a fourth quarter 3-pointer to extend his streak of consecutive games with a triple to 101. Both players had five assists.

Teague's free throws with 1:30 to go resulted in the final margin, as both teams came up empty the rest of the way. Jordan Crawford missed two shots in the final seconds for the Celtics.

The Warriors have won three straight over the Hawks, including two in a row in Atlanta.
